MD - Affluent man charged with killing cats

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/features...,5379727.story

Ethan Phillip Weibman went to the Maryland SPCA and from the dozens ofcats, police say he chose a short-haired one named Lucy to adopt.

two weeks after authorities say he had brought Lucy's body back to the SPCA. Court documents say Weibman is a suspect in the deaths of five morecats and kittens

The Weibman case stands apart from others, due to its suspected serial nature and the background of the suspect: a well-to-do young man who grew up in a million-dollar home, attended the exclusive Hampshire College, lists David Foster Wallace and Hunter S. Thompson among his favorite writers on his Facebook page,.

What is wrong with people? Innocent animals.

Here he's on a "Do not adopt" watch. His girlfriend as well.

Man, there's a lot of similarities with Andrew Thompson and his little Italian Greyhounds, isn't there? I wonder if this was caught due to the higher vigilance at shelters?

    Rest in peace, little kitties.

I wish we could figure out who's killing dogs and cats near Portland, OR.

So why is Weibman's girlfriend not facing some charges? She seems to have been present at least two of the deaths/injuries.

Odd, but the girlfriend's name, JD, is not one of his FB friends. She's listed with him on several "Do Not Adopt" sites, with her name spelled a variety of ways.

When was the last time we read of a couple doing this together? That's totally creepy.

I have a feeling that Weibman feels he's above the law:

Hmmm. Privately funded? The only difference with Andrew Thompson is that Thompson ordered expensive puppies via the internet. Weibman traveled from rescue group to rescue group. My guess is that he has an excellent attorney.

If I'm not mistaken, the girlfriend's name is not spelled any of the ways I've seen it in print...close though. If I'm correct, she's from the same town but recently enlisted in the military.

We do NOT want this woman in the military!!

I read this thread earlier today, then had to go calm down before posting. I have owned and loved six shelter cats in my life, currently have two. I know this guy has a sickness but I hope he and his girlfriend excuse for human beings get the book thrown at them. This crap is tolerated way too much in society. The really creepy part is that he brings back the bodies, what's that all about? He seems to feel some entitlement to tortue innocent creatures then to in a way seel approval for his deeds by bringing back their bodies and asking for another.
Some of these creeps from wealthy families are flat out sociopaths.
I read somewhere that even Hitler, who was so cruel to millions of humans, hated animal abusers. His staff had a standing order to bring to his attention any news articles about anyone who tortued or abused a dog or cat. He would intervene to ensure the court handed out harsh justice. Seems we are more backward than Nazi Germany in this regard.
I like to think that animals go straight to heaven; I hope Lucy and Lola are in a better place than this evil world.

Rarely am I at a complete loss.

This jerk seriously needs to do some time.

If money talks in this case I am going to be pissed.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! What the h*ll is wrong with people!?!?!

Some of those comments are crazy, & shows that it is perfectly ok to be completely void of feeling for living things. These were just put on there.

Remember that comments are often just posted to incite anger. I have to admit that there have been some reasonable comments (in this case and in Thompson's case) concerning some people's stronger reaction to animal torture/death than to some stories of human torture and murder. There have also been some excellent points made about the use of animals as food. "What did you have for lunch today and how was it killed?" is a valid question.

As a strict vegetarian who does not wear leather AND a long time animal rescuer, I get the point. Oh, how I wish no animal was killed. However, there's a vast difference in purchasing or adopting pets only to torture and kill them compared to hunting for food and eating animals killed humanely.

The fact that a young man and woman are doing this together is a first for me. Extremely frightening. Are they two sociopaths who happened to meet up or is there some other evil motivation? If it were some sort of ritual or occult practice, they wouldn't be returning with the bodies or seeking vet care.

My guess: He'll get 200 hours of Community Service. He wont put his time in and no one will persue the matter. You're correct: money talks.

I haven't read any of the links & I'm already so angry that I could spit.
I think I'll just log off without reading them ... (& go hug my kitties)
