Denise McVay's grisly and random murder was a cruel end for the shy single mom who had worked so hard for so long, family members said.
McVay, 49, was at a Hanford car wash just before 5 a.m. Tuesday when she was attacked by a 17-year-old boy wandering the streets, looking for someone to kill, police say.
Her body was found the next morning in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed more than 30 times and her throat was slit.
Police say McVay did not know Jose Saldana, 17, of Hanford, who was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of murder.
"The suspect decided he was going to kill someone that morning and happened to come across the victim," Capt. Parker Sever said.
