Officers say the body has been here for several months. They are not sure at this time how the person died.
They tell us it appears to be a man, and there are some pieces of clothing. The body will be sent for an autopsy and for identification.

May I make a request? When starting threads please add the date the remains are found. What happens, is after some time, most news links are no longer active and it is difficult to find/search for updated information when links are broken. Especially since not all cases we find in MSM are added to NamUs or DoeNetwork. I'd hate to see these cases go by the wayside if they are not added to the usual databases when the links are broken if they are not id'd relatively quickly. We do have several older threads with broken links and so little information posted we don't have enough info to search for updates.

This article from WVLT Channel 8, Knoxville has very little info but might it's another source for any further information that might come out:
In The Forest With The Top Down

"A man walking along the railroad tracks in rural McMinn County noticed an animal stirring in the bushes and as he began to investigate, he discovered the remains of a body.
According to McMinn County Chief Deputy Matt Blair, the remains could be of a man who was reported missing from Knoxville earlier this year.
“There is no indication of foul play at this time,” Blair said today.
Officials will have to wait on the medical examiner’s report for possible identification and actual cause of death, but according to Blair, it appeared the body (believed to be male), had been struck by a train."
