Here's one that looks like a possible match.

295UFFL - Davie, Broward County FL - White Teenaged Female

http://doenetwork.org/cases/295uffl.html

Phyllis Eleanor Berry

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/berry_phyllis.html

Consistencies:

  • Age: UID "Teenager" --- P Berry 21
  • Height/Weight: UID 5' 5", 125 lbs --- P Berry 5' 5"; 110 lbs
  • Timeframe: UID Est. Death Date 23-Dec-75 --- P Berry Disappeared 01-Nov-75
  • Phys. Characteristics: UID and P. Berry both have Gap Between FrontTeeth, small bulbous nose, Shoulder-length hair (on UID and one of the two photos of P. Berry). It is not clear which P. Berry photo is more recent.
  • Resemblance: Good overall resemblance between UID drawing and P. Berry.

Inconsistencies:

Distance between location of disappearance and location where UID found is approx 1800 miles. However, Phyllis' profile indicates that she was last seen getting on the back of a motorcycle with an unidentified male after attending a chili cook-off. It is plausible that they could have gone on a cross-country road trip together, and the two-month lag time would also be consistent with that scenario. However, it seems implausible that she would have embarked on such a trip without bringing anything along with her.

Any comments or other possible matches?

I think that it could be a match. For both the UID and Phyllis, DNA is available, so maybe they have already been checked ...
Anyway, I would call it in, at least, to find out if they have been checked. :)

They do look similar, and the rest seems to fit.

Slightly OT, I notice that quite a number of unidentified bodies have been found in Davie, many of them in ditches. I'm not familiar with Florida -- is there something about the area that makes it attractive as a dumping ground?

I was a little reluctant to turn this in (1) because of the 1800 mile separation, and (2) because it looks like the UID has a CODIS profile, and I thought I saw somewhere that there was a CODIS profile on Phyllis Berry (although I checked again, and cannot find any confirmation of that).

But I decided to go ahead and submit it to crimetips@daviepolice.com. If both profiles are in CODIS, I will let Davie Police confirm that as fact rather than assume it to be so.

I never received a response from crimetips@daviepolice.com, so I called the Texas Dept of Public Safety. I was put through to a woman named Tara Eason.

She indicated that Phyllis has a CODIS profile, and I indicated to her that the Doe Network Page states "DNA Available". She said that this means that they probably have put it in CODIS, but she will go ahead and check it out anyway.

She instructed me to call her back in a couple of weeks, and she will have an answer on this.

I called back Tara of the Texas Dept of Public Safety for a follow-up on this case. She said that she did contact Davie PD for verification that the case was input to CODIS. They replied that in fact, it was.

And since Phyllis Berry's DNA is in CODIS, this is an exclusion by default.

Carl, I thought you had a match there...UGH!! Nice try though!

Case History
The victim was located floating in a canal north of Southwest 28th Street and 154th Avenue, in Davie, Florida on December 23, 1975.

Note: Phyllis Eleanor Berry has been ruled out. The comparison between P Berry and this Jane Doe is discussed on this thread:

Ruled Out FL - UID Female 295UFFL, Davie, 1975 to: TX - Phyllis Berry, Terlingua, 1975 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

NOTE: This case should not be confused with DoeNetwork Case 554UFFL pertaining to another young white UID female found in a canal in Davie FL in Feb 1984. Her case is discussed on the following thread:

FL FL - Davie - Female 554UFFL, 21-35, in canal, Feb 1984 - Possible C. Wilder victim - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

This case was just added today to Charley Project.

She caught my attention in comparison to this case because she has a gap between her #8 and #9 teeth, just as the Jane Doe does. She would have been 14 years old in Dec 1975 (the UID is described as a "teenager"), and her height is within an inch of the UID's height.

I wonder why this UID case is not in NamUs. Perhaps it is resolved, and they didn't tell DoeNet.

They look very similar...... and the time frame sure fits. I cant decide whether the ring is a mass produced ring from the 70's or whether it is a one of a kind ring.

I've seen others like it, in fact I remember seeing something like that at a neighbor's garage sale several years ago. It looks like a mass produced one, to me.

This UID is now in NamUshttps://identifyus.org/cases/9302

NamUs lists this UID age as being between 18-35, where the Doe Network lists her as being a teenager.

Carl,

Do you have a list of rule outs for this UID? The NamUs file does not have any rule outs listed.

Have they checked if this could be Amy Billig? http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/18dffl.html

I thought about Sheryl Ann Tillinghast as another possibility. http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1500dfny.html Circumstances of her disappearance is unclear, being born in 1956 she fits in the age frame, and she appears to have a gap between her teeth. She’s slightly too small, but she could have grown a couple of inches, or her height at the time of disappearance could have been an estimate.

According to Charley Project, Ima Jean Sanders was "found deceased". I wonder if they just found the remains, or if she was matched to a UID.

The NamUs casefile for the Davie Puka Necklace Jane Doe is still open. But now that I've looked closer at her photo, it looks like the gap is between her lower teeth (24 & 25), not 8 & 9.

ETA: She was matched up to previously unidentified victim #5 of serial killer Paul John Knowles. I couldn't find a DoeNet case for this victim.

Has anyone checked to see if Kimberly Rae Doss could be this one?
Probably because they're both listed with the doenetwork. But, I had to ask.

http://doenetwork.org/cases/295uffl.html

I agree that Tammy Lynn Leppert sounds like a definite possibility. The UID look way more bloated in the face, but that could have happened post mortem, I guess.

What about Sherry Lynn Rail? http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/531dfbc.html
Exact height and weight matches, green eyes vs hazel eyes on the UID, and she could have bleached her hair. Disappeared from Canada in January 1984(at the age of 27, right in the middle of the estimated age group), she could have travelled a long way and met some bad people.
She resembles the first sketch, if any, in my opinion.
Sherry Lynn is not smiling with her teeth in the picture, and the case file does not say anything special about her teeth.

She does have a tattoo, but as long as it doesn’t say that the UID does NOT have any tattoos, it’s not enough to definitely rule her out yet, in my opinion.

Today Shari Lynne Ball was added to Charley Project, and I think she’s an even better match than Sherry Lynn Rail.

Blonde hair, hazel eyes, 5’4, disappeared from Florida June 1983, the UID was found in Florida February 1984…

Made a list of missing women with fitting age, height and eye color that could also be possibilities (most of them have brown hair, but it doesn’t say if the UIDs hair is natural or bleached)

Myra Mandley http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2105dfpa.html
Her scar on the right hand and dental work would probably have been noted?

Theresa Lorraine Davis http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/3061dfok.html

She disappeared from Oklahoma slightly more than a year before the UID was found.

Kathy Mae Brownfield Goad http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/976dftx.html

disappeared from Texas November 1982

Marcia Estelle Remick http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/227dfva.html

She would have been 22 when the victim was found. She hitchhiked a lot, and there was reported that she had gone to Florida.

Kimberly Rae Doss http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/800dffl.html

Last seen in Florida nearly five years earlier at the age of 16..

Paulette Susan Jaster http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/108dfmi.html

Disappeared from Michigan May 1979.

Lorraine Rea Herbster http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1412dfnj.html

The circumstances make this look unlikely.

Sandra Lee Hopler http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1436dfpa.html
In that case, a lot of time passed between when she disappeared and when the UID was found.

There are now 8 exclusions on the namus page of the UID:

Amy Billig 1957 Florida
Judith Bleiler Unknown Washington
Peggy Byars-Baisden 1941 Florida
Cynthia Goodling 1958 Florida
Angela Hartman Unknown Washington
Pamela Nater 1946 Florida
Janel Peters 1960 California
Deanie Pyle Peters 1966 Michigan

Althought the doe page says: Brown hair

It is interesting to note that the UID's namus page now says her hair is red/auburn.

Which drew my attention to: Tracy Anne King

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/342dfpa.html

I tried to blow up her dentals to see if she had a gap between her teeth...hard to see...
