Exclamation TX - Antonio Villegas, 20, Mission, Aug 2011

The family of a missing man is back out searching for their loved one. Authorities called off the search for 20-year-old Antonio Villegas late Tuesday.

They are searching a large brushy area off Inspiration Road just south of Military Highway in Mission. Villegas made several 911 calls from that location, but those GPS coordinates may not be enough.

Police know exactly where Villegas was when he called 911. They searched that area for three days and only found his shirt. His parents are using those 911 calls and their faith as strength.

“With all the phone calls, nine phone calls or more, it's not enough. How come we haven't found my son,” says Antonio Villegas Sr.

Villegas Sr. doesn't understand. He says police were so close to finding his son.

“They have all this information. Why did they release the case when they just found his shirt?” says Villegas Sr.

Mission police ended their search for Villegas on Tuesday night. GPS coordinates led them to the exact area where Villegas frantically called 911.

    From the same link:
Knowing where to look is the easy part. Finding Villegas in the brush is the hard part. Police can also use cell towers to locate someone’s phone when it's not making a call. It's called pinging. It can be very accurate and the benefit is police can find your phone when it's not making a call. Mission police say they could not ping Villegas' phone because of an investigation.

What? I admit I am no expert, but everything I have learned about cell phone pings here on WS has told me a missing person investigation is a time when you CAN and SHOULD ping a cell phone, no? Maybe just poor reporting?
One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.

Mother Continuing Search for Missing Son

Family members of a missing man from Alton say they won’t stop looking. Antonio Villegas was last seen three-and-a-half weeks ago in south Mission.

Janie Villegas, Antonio’s mother, says the family had to stop walking the brush in Mission. It's too dangerous. She's finding new ways to keep searching.
