Gatineau Police Continue Their Search for Witness in Leblanc Murder Case

    Wednesday, December 14, 2011

He tells CFRA significant information was compromised when the murder scene was tampered with."
    respectfully snipped by me

I just cannot believe no charges were laid by the Quebec's director of criminal and penal prosecutions against any of the 4 teens!!

They not only tampered with Valerie's body, causing an "indignity" to her body, but also compromised the crime scene!!

    • Here is the CTV article with video regarding the same incident:
Police seek man with knife after attempted sexual assault: http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loca...hub=OttawaHome

    • With the help of the Ottawa Sun article (link), I was able to find the exact location for the bus stop:

      Google street view: http://g.co/maps/m3yft

    • Though this attack didn't take place close to were Valerie was murdered, good to keep an eye on this one ... following map shows approx. distance ... this route is just one of the many between the two locations:

Whoever said kids (and parents) have things easier these days?!

"Ottawa police west disivions Staff Sgt. Mark Myers said residents should “be aware” and try to avoid being alone at night in secluded areas. “Be careful because if someone’s watching you, it only takes one second...”

A detective from the sexual assault and child abuse section of the Ottawa Police Service has been assigned to the case.

Myers confirmed that part of the investigation involves reviewing security footage from the camera installed at the bus stop"

Given the location, I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. I once walked through those woods(middle of the day, lots of walkers/bikers,etc.) because I didn't know the area and wasn't sure of a bus route to get me where I wanted to go, and the whole time I was constantly looking around and absolutely terrified.

I saw this headline today but didn't look at the story as I was on my way to work, my home/work is about 2-5 minute drive, 15 minute walk from there. My husband will be taking me to work from now on if I have to go before it's light out.

ETA: There are 4 shelters at that stop, one on each corner, and the one in the photo is probably the most likely one that was where the girl was assaulted(although none of the 4 are well lit at all) It's a pretty busy set of stops but in a very sketchy area(ie woods, secluded, no homes 'right'there) It's a stop for ALL the main downtown buses as well as the commuter buses and is considered a "station" even though they are all seperate stops on separate corners.

    "Morisseau, LeBlanc cases investigated

Gatineau police said they contacted Ottawa police to see what links could be made between the Ottawa crimes and two cases of their own: the 2006 death of 27-year-old Kelly Morrisseau, who was found dead in a parking lot near Gatineau Park, and the death of Valerie LeBlanc, the 18-year-old CEGEP student found outside her school last year.

Gatineau police Sgt. Pierre Lanthier said his force with the help of the Sureté du Quebec did extensive analysis of the two cases, and also looked at information coming out of Ottawa before determining there were no connections."

"The Gatineau Police Chief Mario Harel, took stock this morning police actions during the year 2011. "The record Valerie Leblanc has captured our attention, he said. It was an issue that has mobilized troops on a large scale and which required the establishment of measures that were unusual. "

In 2011, four murders have occurred in the territory of the Gatineau police. Three of these murders have been solved. Only the case of the young student at the Cégep de l'Outaouais, found in the woods behind the hotel, is still ongoing"

Gatineau police said conducting "routine links" between the murder of Valerie Leblanc and that of Chinese murdered by the now famous Luka Rocco Magnotta.

"Nothing leads us to believe that this man is connected (the murder of Valerie Leblanc)," said Sergeant John Paul LeMay, the Gatineau police.

The only element that leads investigators to Gatineau to recheck certain aspects of the case Leblanc is the treatment of his corpse".

A spokesperson for the Gatineau force said it would contact Montreal police shortly to see whether any link exists between Magnotta and the killing of Valerie Leblanc.

Sgt. Jean-Paul Lemay stressed it was routine procedure for police to look for connections given the distinct nature of both crimes"
