Florida man arrives in Surrey to look for missing son
By Tom Zytaruk, Surrey NOW September 2, 2011

<snips>
The Surrey man has been missing since Feb. 6 and his disappearance continues to baffle his family as well as police. Begg, 36, had been on his computer, looking at local bus schedules, until 2:30 a.m. and when his apartment roommate woke up, he was gone.

"It's a totally strange thing," said his dad, Malcolm Begg, who flew up here from Florida to look for his son. "He just point-blank disappeared.
Begg's dad said Stephen was the quietest of his three children. He'd worked as a software developer and had been "a bit depressed" concerning the lack of work in that field.

"He was saying a lot of it is going to India and China," the elder Begg recalled.
The Surrey RCMP has looked into his medical, financial and computer records with no success

RCMP launches historic missing persons campaign

Surrey RCMP are launching a campaign to generate new tips in a number of historic missing persons cases, beginning with Stephen Begg, who vanished in February 2011.

[snip]

Begg was reported missing on Feb. 16, 2011, 10 days after he was last seen at his home in the 16800-block of Fraser Highway. He told his family he would be going away for a few weeks, but didn't provide further details.

Surrey RCMP has conducted an extensive search, involving the Air 1 helicopter and Search and Rescue teams, to no avail. His father made a public appeal for more information on Sept. 2, 2011, but investigators have since hit a dead end.

Surrey Mounties to profile missing person each month

[snip]

The initiative kicked off Thurs-day with the case of 36-year-old Stephen Begg, who was last seen Feb. 6, 2011, in his home in the 16800-block Fraser Highway. He told family he was going away for a couple of weeks, but was never seen again.

Police discovered Begg struggled with alcoholism and depression. He also accessed information on suicide and on starting a new life, said Turton.

"Without any answers, it's very difficult [for family members,]" she said. "Without answers, they maintain hope, as we do, that the person can be found and returned to their families."

Surrey RCMP have 40 open, missing-persons' files dated before 2008. Another nine to 10 are open cases after 2008.

Surrey RCMP Missing Persons Unit Never Gives Up

Tracking down missing people isn't often a priority in many police forces, but a special unit at the Surrey RCMP has a near-perfect success rate.

[snip]

The successful unit netted all but four missing people in 2011; solved every reported disappearance in 2010; and all but two in 2009.

[snip]

Last year, the unit began profiling a missing person every month to generate tips in cold cases. They started with Stephen Begg, a software designer who went missing in February 2011.

Bumping, I can't seem to find anything official related to this missing person, it's possible they have found him but can't confirm. Wondering if anyone has insight?

RCMP has taken down their links but I can't find anything listing him as found. Surrey RCMP - Historic Missings He was previously listed as "Historical missing" and they did the whole one profile a month thing, so I think for better or for worse they have found him
