Again, it appears, the teen was allegedly stretching the truth. Scheidt had been in the Sheriff's Explorer Program, but was removed for "over-stepping his explorer duties," by attempting to mislead people into the belief that he was a deputy, according to the police report.

A jury found the 18-year-old guilty of two counts of impersonation and on two of three counts of practicing without a license.

Scheidt, who was then 17, had actually been employed as a clerk at a doctor's office across the street from the hospital. He told police that when he went into the medical center to get his identification, he was given incorrect credentials.

Prosecutor Sarah Freeman told jurors Tuesday that the teen went so far in his deception as to be "Dressed in scrubs, stethoscope around his neck... he even had the terminology down."

Scheidt's attorney, Jamie Kane, insisted Scheidt was innocent, and blamed hospital administrators who gave the teen a badge meant for a physician assistant without checking his credentials.

The judge sentenced Scheidt to the one year in jail with credit for 264 days of time already served leaving him with 3 more months in jail, along with 1 year of community control and 8 years of probation following...

Scheidt faced a minimum sentence of 84 months or a maximum of 20 years in prison but the judge decided instead to sentence Scheidt as a youthful offender.

Matthew Scheidt of Central Florida told ABC that he began inventing stories after his mother was arrested in 2002 for possession of crystal meth.

Ashamed of his impoverished lifestyle and of his mother's addiction he says he told his classmates lies about the type of lifestyle he lived.

A Florida hospital has been fined $5,000 for hiring a teenager who worked for more than a week as a physician’s assistant, treating patients and even performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on one, despite a lack of qualifications to do so.

Osceola Regional Medical Center has changed its policy to avoid a repeat of the mistakes that resulted in Matthew Scheidt, then 17, being hired and given a badge that allowed him access to patients after he allegedly falsely claimed credentials as a physician assistant, WFTV reports.
