Case History
A fisherman discovered the man's body floating in the bay east of Sand Key near Clearwater Pass Bridge on August 6, 1987.
He may have come to the area with the intention of killing himself, to keep people from wherever he left from knowing of his death.
An autopsy showed the man killed himself. He had five deep cuts on his left wrist, and four others on his right one. He bled to death after slicing his wrists and jumping into the water.

His physical characteristics, fingerprints and dental information were fed into an FBI computer that compared the data against all missing persons reported by law enforcement agencies countywide. The dozen possible matches were eliminated because of various dissimilarities.

Gregory Greco was something of a free spirit and world traveler.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and earned a master's degree from the University of Montpellier in France. In 1984, the 33-year-old moved from his home in Wisconsin to the Tampa Bay area.

He got an apartment in the Lakes of Northdale community in Tampa and began working for the Tampa Cigar Co. In August 1987, Greco packed his belongings into his car and drove it to his father's seasonal home in Port Richey.

He left a note that simply said, "I'll be in touch."

Greco's family never saw him again.

...

Pasco County sheriff's Detective David Boyer announced today that a body found floating near the Clearwater Pass on Aug. 8, 1987, has been positively identified as Greco.

Greco had slashed his wrists and jumped into the water. An autopsy at the time determined the cause of death to be suicide.

...

With no way to identify the remains, the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office had dubbed the remains "John Doe Sand Key" and buried them. Sand Key forms the south side of the Clearwater Pass, with Clearwater Beach to the north.

Interesting article - I wonder if some of the UID's that we see here have left the same kind of message with their family... and of course the family do not report the person missing because it seems like they 'are not missing' simply not being in contact..... even for a very extended time of period.

Hi! Wow, this is great that it was solved. How did you get all of this information? Specifically about what he was wearing, etc?

Thanks!
