"Help me mummy, it's hot in hell": 'Grief trolling' and the end of human civility
Excellent Daily Mail piece investigates the phenomenon and features a man in Northern Ireland working to combat it:
'Help me, mummy. It's hot here in hell': A special investigation into the
distress of grieving families caused by the sick internet craze of 'trolling'
Indeed, when the Mail contacted one troll — an individual using the screen name ‘The Pro-Fessor’ on Facebook, his main complaint was that his profile might be temporarily taken down for attacking memorial sites to the Welsh miners.
There was no repentance — only a concern that his vile activities might be interrupted.
He sent a message saying: ‘I have had about 45 people yelling at me about dead miners and I didn’t even kill them.’ As ever, on the day we got in contact, the Pro-Fessor’s work was visible all over Facebook.
As a well as trolling sites about the Welsh miners, on another memorial page he expressed delight at the death of a 20-year-old man, called Dustin, in Georgia, saying: ‘It must have been time to take the trash out.’
At the same time, he was showering the family of Russian ice hockey star Pavol Demitra with messages to say he hoped he’d died painfully in the plane crash that killed 43 people this month.
Asked why he trolls, The Pro-Fessor explains that increasing the pain of grieving families is what he does best.
It is a straightforward mission statement: ‘I ruin family, friends and grief tourists’ view of a dead person.’

These people are disgusting, the lowest forms of life. How can someone enjoy causing that kind of pain? People like this make me very worried because it seems like their sadistic behavior could easily escalate to the real world. Scary.

Absolutely despicable. I'd say those people are low functioning sociopaths. Some of them could escalate to killing, but most are too lacking in social skills or courage to do anything other than sit behind a keyboard and practice mental sadism.

You reap what you sew.
I certainly hope this two legged maggot gets his back in kind.

Wow. That 'man' is disgusting. How could someone do something like that? Why would someone want to do something like that? So despicable.
What an evil way to get his 'jollies'. Makes me think it's because this sociopath has never had anyone he loves die.
Because he's never loved anyone. Because he is incapable of love. He's only capable of hate.
The only consolation I can find is that he himself will one day be saying, "Help me, it's hot in Hell"..... ....... My posts are my opinion, only.

I'd like to think that such folks are in hell right now, such are their human limitations while living.

From the OP's link.
That person was Sean Duffy, a 25-year-old unemployed loner, who was eventually tracked down by police. He discovered that far from being lone outcasts, trolls tend to form highly-organised sects, often with links to child pornography — although Duffy is not suspected of having any connection with them.Michael says: ‘The average profile of an RIP Facebook troll is male, aged mid-20s to 30s, although as many as 15 per cent are women.‘A great many have previously been in jail for other crimes, such as violence or drugs. Many are jobless and spend their whole lives trolling.
If you've been wooed by a cyberstalker, this profile will bring you back to reality:
-lives in a 1-room apartment which hasn't been cleaned for months - if ever
-has stacks of pornographic magazines in his bedroom area
-has poor personal hygiene
-has poor table manners
-has poor social etiquette
-hasn't changed the sheets on his bed for months, which are now best described as crusty
-has a bathroom, the state of which doesn't bear thinking about
-lives on pizza and beer/coke, the remnants of which litter his apartment
-may have an unusual pet (eg ferret) which has free run of the apartment
-is either significantly over- or under-weight
-has a small moustache or other facial hair
-has not held down any job for more than a couple of years, probably less
-has no friends
-has no life outside the Internet
Even though this deals with stalkers, the profile listed fits trolls well.

Those kind of people who do that are sick in their brains. They are brains work differently from normal people. I have seen them profiled and they typically are males between the ages of 18 to 34 with some to complete college education. They are usually loners and have no life. It would not surprise me if they have antisocial personality disorder and are psychopaths. No surprise they have criminal records too.
I totally believe you, but I am interested in learning more. Do you happen to have a link to the research you reference? I am really wanting (hoping) to learn if there are commonalities in the lives of those who would post such disgusting comments on memorial boards.....

I hate to agree with "the end of human civility"
The internet and it's anonymity has just given public voice to these misfits that have always been among us. Instead of plaguing the lives of the people who know them, now they can extend their plague indiscriminately to others.
It actually helps me cope to realize these revolting characters have always been among us. It means there is nothing new under the sun. Except perhaps the MEANS to extend their plague.
Doesn't stop me from wishing there were just a way to step on them, like a bug.

I don't understand, Just sick.. Thanks for the information.
I was stalked online once, not as sick as what was posted, but people are bored, enjoy harming others, and have no joy in their own lives I imagine and feel this is a way to bring hurt to others.

Just when I think people can't get any sicker...
Justice for Travis
Sometimes the first step towards forgiveness is understanding that the other person is a complete idiot.
