IN - Five people shot to death at 2 Franklin County homes, 25 Sept 2011

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. -- Five bodies were discovered in a mass slaying in rural Franklin County, Ind., on Sunday.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin told News 5 that police were tipped after neighbors saw a toddler wandering alone down Stipps Hill Road near Laurel around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. When they tried to contact the child's family, they discovered the bodies. In total, they found five bodies at two different homes.

It would sure be scary to live in that neighborhood with the police warning of locking doors and not opening them to strangers. I'd be scared out of my mind! I hope they will catch the killer very quickly.

Good grief, I don't think I'd open my door to strangers or anyone I knew if the police gave me that warning. What a terrible thing!

Police said no one is in custody at this time. However, a source with ISP told Fox59 police have two persons of interest and a witness was questioned who said they saw someone dragging a body in or out one of the homes.

Timmy Richardson told 6News' Julie Pursley that his family members were among those killed and that he believes those responsible haven't been apprehended.
“I hope you get found and rot in prison,” Richardson said. "I really don’t want you getting the death penalty, because that would be too good. Let you sit in prison for the rest of your life.”

    Wait, what?
Someone saw someone dragging a body out of a house but it took a wandering child for someone to call police?

Maybe someone saw a big bag or a rolled up carpet being dragged out of a house and didn't put 2 and 2 together till they found out about the murders.. it may not have been apparent it was a body.....

Police said they had been called out to at least one of the homes before, but they declined to elaborate on that.

I wonder if Timmy wasn't supposed to elaborate on how he knew the victims... or if it was a mistake on the reporter's part initially?

Family and neighbors talked about their own theories, ranging from angry family members turning on one another to an acquaintance allegedly killing them all in a dispute. Some speculated that drug activity, which they said had been prevalent in the area, may have been to blame.

Teresa Richardson, who is A**** Napier's sister, said the family had been involved with drugs. Franklin County Sheriff Ken Murphy said his deputies had been to the address previously but did not say whether drugs were involved.

This article contains the victims' names.

Drugs are destroying children, families, and this Country! These smaller rural communities where there are NO jobs are getting scary -- adults are turning to manufacturing/selling/doing drugs in place of living life. Way too sad . . .

Indiana State Police statement on five bodies found

Five Dead in Rural Franklin County

Franklin County - At approximately 1:23 PM on today’s date, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a call from people traveling near the address of 24015 Stipps Hill Road, near Laurel, stating they saw a small child wondering around in the roadway.

The good Samaritans did not see any adults with the child so they stopped and stayed with the child until the police arrived. A deputy arrived and began talking to the small child and other neighbors in the area. After gaining more information he called for backup from other officers.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles and an Indiana Conservation Officer arrived. When the officers arrived an immediate search of the area began and officers located the body of a dead male at the address of 24030 Stipps Hill Road. The bodies of four other people, 2 males and 2 females, were located at 24015 Stipps Hill Road. (These two addresses are across the road from each other in rural Franklin County).

At this time Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators, detectives from the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles and officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department are still trying to determine exactly what happened. It is unknown if there is one or multiple shooters. It is also unknown at this time if the shooter or shooters could be among the deceased.

No information about the deceased will be released until autopsies are performed and all family members are notified. The autopsies will be performed tomorrow morning in Indianapolis, IN.

Police would like to caution neighbors to be careful answering their doors and to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1 as investigators work to piece together what happened.

If anyone knows anything about this crime they are encouraged to contact detectives at the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles at 812-689-5000 or inside of Indiana at 1-800-566-6704. Callers can remain anonymous.

Assisting Agencies; The Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Metamora Fire Department, Franklin County EMS and Rescue 24.

    -UPDATE-

The autopsies of the five individuals found dead in Franklin County near Laurel, Indiana began today at the Institute of Forensic. Four of the autopsies were completed and the fifth will take place tomorrow morning.

The Indiana State Police is still working to ensure all next of kin are notified before any information can be released.

It appears that some of the victims have sustained gunshot wounds. The crime scene will be secured until the autopsies are completed.

There is no suspect or person of interest at this time.

Detectives have been investigating the case without rest for the last 30 or more hours. We are asking the public to come forward with any information.
