OC and San Diego - Red Tides

We went up and down PCH last night and didn't see any from Newport to South Laguna, so we're headed to San Diego. We're going to look for San Dollars on Coronado and then head up a little to look for the red tide. I've lived near the beach off and on for more than 40 years, and have never seen this or heard of it. So if you're close to a beach, it may be worth going to check out.

Nice...we have biolumenscence in the water here in FL, too. It's not necessarily from Red Tide here though. I've seen it while out on our boat late at night and also when night scuba diving. Very ethereal and simply amazing. If you drag your hand through the water it looks like a blue or green highlighter moving through. Really hard to believe it's real. Here's some info:

"One of the most spectacular sights on a night dive in the ocean is to witness the hundreds of tiny star-like bioluminescent plankton scintillating like a starry sky as you move through the dark water. Towards the end of a dive, just shield your underwater flashlight and wave your hands through the water in front of you, and be mesmerized by the tiny glowing specs of plankton."

we are loaded up with glass containers and a couple of plastic to see if we can share with a science class on tuesday....we'll see if it lasts that long in the dark trunk???

I just returned back home from Coronado Island. Thursday night, we were on our balcony at the Del looking at the ocean and I for sure saw the blue light in the waves as they were breaking close to shore. It looked VERY cool.

Awesome. I was at Laguna beach yesterday but it was during the day, so nothing to see. I'd love to catch a glimpse!

We went to Aliso Beach tonight to watch the sunset and see if we could see any up here (I guess there were some a couple of weeks ago) I think out of the Montage there may have been a little bit, but not like it was down in La Jolla and Del Mar. Definitely worth the afternoon and evening of making memories with my daughter!

(We were too far back for my camera to work at night though.)

We were there too early in the day. It's funny to me how different the sand is down there from up here!

Aww, too bad! It is the most amazing sight! Have been seeing it every night for two weeks here in north San Diego county. It really does look like a laser light show!
