6 Dead, 3 Injured In Seal Beach Salon Shooting

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 p.m. at Salon Meritage in the 500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to Sgt. Steve Bowles of the Seal Beach Police Department.

“Upon arrival we found six confirmed deceased people, along with three critically injured parties, which were transported to a local hospital,” Bowles told KCAL9.

“An officer observed the suspect, as described by a witness, leaving the parking lot,” Sgt. Bowles said in a news conference.

A white male suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting during a traffic stop. He was taken into custody “without incident” about a half-mile from the salon.

Some witnesses familiar with employees at the salon said the suspect was involved in a domestic dispute -- possibly a custody fight -- with one of the stylists. Police said they could not confirm any relationship between the shooter and the salon. They also did not release his name

Very sad. I have a family member who used to work in that mall. My heart goes out to all those folks tonight. I'll never understand this kind of violent action.

There are crazies out there!

Shooting At Seal Beach: Eight Confirmed Dead, One Critically Wounded (DEVELOPING)

Los Alamitos-Seal Beach Patch was able to get a statement from the husband of salon employee Kathy McGhee, who revealed that the alleged gunman had just lost a custody battle with a salon employee after a recent divorce. Kathy McGhee was at the salon when the shooting happened but managed to survive because she locked herself in a back room.

On air, KCAL 9 reported that the suspect was ex-military and was wearing body armor during the attack and at the time of his arrest.

Tanya, a caller into KFI 640AM, claimed to have insight on the man found shot in a car in the parking lot. She claims that the man was targeted by the suspect when he was leaving the salon simply because he had parked his car next to the suspect's car. Police have not confirmed this report.

I have contacted all my friends in seal beach nd have not heard from any of them. This is a very tight knit community and they are probably banding together in a major way.
They are saying this is the worst mass shooting in Orange County history.

O.M.G.

Prayers to the families and friends of all the victims.

I stopped going to an awesome hair stylist a few years ago after her crazy boyfriend called over and over and over again while she was doing my hair. I was so afraid something like this very thing would happen!

I was thinking of you when I heard about this. You are right down the highway from there. (I'm up a few more miles). Hope all the people you know in Seal Beach are okay.

You know, divorce, custody, that's the most dangerous stuff for soon to be ex spouses, new boyfriends or girlfriends, police or lawyers to be involved in. I should probably look over my shoulder more often. But, I don't. And I have had some scary crazy clients and opposing parties (mostly opposing parties) in my cases.

But most of the people in that salon probably had nothing to do with any of whatever was going on with the shooter. So random for them and so senseless all around. Prayers for all the victims and their families.

This is so sad, eight families lives will never be the same ever again. What was this violence going to solve, it makes no sense....

A custody battle may have provided the motive for a deadly shooting at a Southern California hair salon that left eight people dead, according to affiliate reports.

The suspect, 42-year-old Scott Evans De Kraai of Huntington Beach, was arrested without incident as he was trying to leave the scene in a vehicle, a police statement said. He faces multiple counts of murder, according to police.
Authorities have not divulged a motive for the shootings, but CNN affiliate KTLA reported that De Kraai's ex-wife, Michelle, was a stylist at the salon, and that the two were involved in a custody battle over their son.
Michelle De Kraai was among those killed in the shooting, according to KTLA.
