Oh, thank you for this update! I don't know what happened to her other thread, but I always had my suspicions about her son. His "story" never made sense.

Sylon and Jacie, I am so sorry for your losses. Catherine has haunted me since I first read about her going missing. I cannot imagine the pain of having a family member murdered and still missing. You are all in my prayers. I live in NE Wyoming, so this really has left me feeling helpless and disturbed....

The date has to be an error or typo. Today, August 19th, is a Sunday. The article says the 19th is a Wednesday too~! So possibly the date should be the 22nd?

The Nebraska State Patrol in conjunction with the Box Butte County Attorney’s Office has confirmed that remains uncovered in a remote area south of Chadron in June are those of a missing Denver man.

“Forensic examination and DNA testing has been completed,” said Investigative Services Lieutenant Monica Bartling. “The tests have confirmed what we suspected all along. The remains uncovered in Dawes County are those of Josh Bullock.”

    Hi there Snowbunny,

I don't know anything about other cases in South Dakota just only my sisters, and hers is definitely been kept quiet for specific reasons that are unique to her case alone. But I would tend to think that most cases would be similar, that each one would have unique reasons for either keeping quiet or for needing to be public.

The press and media are right on the heels of these types of cases, the public will know very quickly any information that has been released for the public to know.

    HI again M86,

It is not known to the public whether the case is solved or not. As you know, I can't talk about it in detail, but The case is moving right along, right on time, and in the order that it needs to.
Cases are very active through each stage, from the time that Cath disappeared in October of last year and clear up to date right now, there has never been any down time, or time when the case was not being worked on.
The documents have been reviewed over an over and processed by many officials, it's just a lot of detail. Also there is no limit to what can be brought into a case in the sense that the case can keep growing even as it moves forward. So as it moves through each court process it is also gathering information along the way.

There are as so many reasons for a case to be held from the public. Most obvious reason would be to preserve information so that it can be presented at a certain specific time. Some information must be presented through the court system first before the public can know. Not much different than if they found my sister's body they would notify my family before they would notify the public. Although I might add, it would not surprise me if our family only knew a few hours before the public since I am already fully aware of how quickly the press and media can move.

There is a process and time for each person involved in the case to address certain information.
Same as any crime, if someone has not been charged with the crime but is only a suspect, then how could the public be told the details to the crime if they have not yet been convicted of the crime? There is an order and sequence that these cases must follow and process through.
The public will be told as soon as that information can be released, I have no doubt that the press and media will have no problem announcing that information for you as soon as it is available.

Providing details can help a case, especially if the case is unresolved. That's not the case with every case though, some cases already know quite a bit in the initial stages. Some cases also have had lots of people call in information pertaining to the case so they have no need to announce things to the public.

I would have the same questions and thoughts that you have shared here M86 if I was in your shoes so I understand where you are coming from and I can relate to the frustration of the public not being told the details feeling that it might just be the one piece to the puzzle that the public could solve. And I can't answer that at this time for you, wish I could.

All I can say is my sister's case has been reviewed with critical and careful thinking by many officials from many specialists in different fields of law. The South Dakota Attorney General himself has stepped in and reviewed the entire case in complete detail. I talk to all of the officials on a regular basis, have been for the past year. Wish I could share more with you, but I can't.

    take care,
    slyon

VA saga again tops list of stories for the year

    4 – Catherine Tornquist

Another of 2011’s top stories, found Catherine Tornquist’s son, Matthew Tornquist, indicted for her murder as well as a charge for grand theft. Catherine Tornquist was last seen in early October of 2011, when she was believed to be planning to travel to Rapid City with a large sum of cash to purchase a motor home.

Numerous searches were conducted by law enforcement and a large search including dozens of volunteers was also held. As the calendar turns to 2013, Catherine Tornquist is still missing and her son will go on trial for her death in early 2013.

Has there been any new developments on this case other than the trial date has been delayed? Are we any closer to finding Catherine? I often think about her I guess because this happened in my home state. Prayers for Catherine and her family.
