    CO - Cristobal Flores, 15, Denver, Sept 2001

    Cristobal James Flores, a 15 year-old Denver teen missing since 2001, has finally been identified, deceased.

    Cristobal ran away from home after a row in Sept 2001, and was reported missing January 2002. In August 2002, two hikers S.W of Silver Saddle Motel, West of Boulder, found human remains. Authorities estimated they'd been there for at least a year.

    2009, Cristobal's family asked Denver police to open a missing person's case for Cristobal. 2012, family submitted DNA. 2014, a match was made with the remains the hikers found back in 2002. Cristobal finally got to come home.

    Rest in peace, Cristobal.

    I started this thread because someone else posted the news about Cristobal, so I haven't followed the case.

    At first glance though, it seems a little sad to me that it took 13 years to identify this young boy, when his body was found less than a year after he went missing?

    How tragic for his family. All these years of wondering.....waiting.....hoping. It's unforgivable honestly. RIP Cristobal. I'm so glad his family finally has some closure and will be able to lay his remains to rest.

    A tragedy all around. They didn't report him missing for 4 months...I wonder why 8 years to open a missing persons case?
    I'm glad he was finally iderntified and can be laid to rest. So sad.

    Question

    http://www.charleyproject.org/resolved/resolved89.html

    I find it strange that on The Charley Project resolved page "Christobal" was listed last year as being found deceased in February 2013. I am really confused of if it was a mistake that NCMEC made of saying Christobal was found deceased although he was actually eventually found deceased or if Christobal's disappearance has started to now be talked about in the media. Also, The Charley Project said he went missing in Aurora, Colorado, so perhaps he ended up in Denver. JMO and

    Chris' family speaks:

    http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_26...ys-remains-but

    It wasn't unusual for Chris to leave for days at a time with no explanation. But when he hadn't returned after a week, the family filed a missing-persons report with Denver police on Sept. 10, 2001.

    In a space asking about the missing juvenile's relationship with parents, the report reads: "Poor. Argued over child's sexual orientation."

    <snip>

    Robert, now 32, says he used to tease Chris and often called him "gay" as a generic insult. And while he says he didn't mean the term in a literal sense, he now recognizes the damage he may have caused and regrets that his words might have made his brother's life that much more difficult.

    Very informative article. Thanks for posting. It must be so hard not knowing how Chris died and what happened following his disappearance until the day he passed away.
