I just heard this heart breaking story on the Greta tonight. Leslie was a beauty queen from S.C Anderian has lived in Napa Valley since she was 9 years old. Three girls shared a place together the 3rd girl was sleeping downstairs she heard noise she dialed 911 but the couldn't get it to go threw she grabbed her dog and was leaving and head someone running she dialed 911 on her cell phone and it went through.

I heard this yesterday too. I'd love to find out more about
this. I did hear that the surviving roommate heard breaking
glass, so it's assumed that is how they got in. Why is the
big question.

Police: murderer knew the victims
Monday's attacks were not random violence, cops say
Saturday, November 6, 2004

Register Staff Writer

Monday's double homicide in southwest Napa was not a random act of violence, police said Friday. Investigating officers would not elaborate, but did say Leslie Ann Mazzara and Adriane Insogna, both slain by an assailant wielding a knife, were the intended victims.

Around 1:45 a.m. Monday, an intruder broke into the victims' home at 2631 Dorset St., off Foster Road, and stabbed Mazzara and Insogna, both 26, in an upstairs bedroom of their rented home. A third roommate, who was asleep downstairs, was awakened by the commotion on the second floor. She was able to escape, and called 911.

Napa Police Cmdr. Jeff Troendly would not explain how investigators were able to rule out the homicide as a random act. "We came to this conclusion based upon evidence at the scene and witnesses' statements," Troendly said. "Investigators are working on a motive and trying to identify the suspect."

Prayers for the third roommate, the victims families and prayers for justice.

With love, Lanie

Thank you for this link, Lanie.

I wonder if there was a reason the Mazzara girl's former roommates moved out and left her alone? Like maybe she had formed some bad associations or something and the roommates knew it? Surely they would have warned her that she was involved with the wrong people.

This is HORRIBLE.

I grew up in Napa. Our poster "Shotzie" (Laci Peterson board) still lives and works there and we have some mutual friends in Napa.

Prayers from Oregon for families and friends of these lovely young women.

Thanks Dani, Yes this happened on my side of town, remember I think it was called Conventry Manor, over by Imola west side. This is very sad, they had a meeting the other nite with 400 neighbors showing up very worried. One asked if the living roommate was involved and they said now comment, hope not.
I live in Browns Valley and I don't worry since I have two bigs dogs..plus two bachelor roomates..I think my dogs are more protective than those willys' Anyhow thanks for worrying about me. I always have my gun loaded also,Plus a stun gun (oops are those legal..too bad got it anyhow) remember I came from Richmond learned the hard way. Old habits never die...Just turned 70 and still fiesty as hell.

Now to Scott, If that SOB doesn't go down I really think now that the jury is asking for all this evidence it will show who else did it? Just use their common sense, I just hope that MD/Law isn't messing with their minds analyzing too much..Like Jack Webb says Just the Fact Maam
If you ever get down this way e mail me and maybe we can have lunch and discuss the outcome of this case.

It has been nearly seven months since a killer went to the Dorset Street home in Napa, Calif., that Mazzara, a 26-year-old former Miss Williamston, shared with two roommates. Adriane Michelle Insogna, 26, also was stabbed to death. The third roommate escaped and called police.

Sharon, thanks for posting this. Sometimes these cases fall off of everyone's radar.

The police have arrested a man for these crimes,

he is called Eric Matthew Copple, I will look for a link,

but just some brief notes,

his wife Lily was a co worker and very good friend of one of the victims Adriene Insogna, she was helping Lily get ready for her wedding to Eric, they married 3 months after her murder,
Lily and Adriene were planning to go to Australia on November 25th to visit Adriennes sister, she was killed on November 2nd,

The police had DNA from the scene but recently told the media that they had also found DNA on some cigarette butts from the scene and this was a match to the male DNA found at the scene, the butts were from an unusual brand,
Copple knew police were looking for him, gave himself up and "made some admissions"

DA and LE seem to think they will get a conviction, it is possibly a DP or LWOP case,

I haven't heard what the motive was, and I don't believe the police have released that info., at least I haven't seen it.

I will post some articles I found interesting. Eric did plead not guilty on Oct. 14, 2005.

Thanks for the great links, I hadn't heard of this story until now. I just read one of your links, to ABC News, and I think the motive is that he was jealous of his wife's friendship with the one roommate. That's how I read it, anyway. Here's a short quote:
Sources tell "Primetime" that Copple wrote a suicide note that indicated he was jealous of Insogna's close friendship with his Lily.

Thanks for posting these. I just finished reading them.
I remember hearing about this case.
So sad :(

I do wonder what the motive was.
Maybe because his wife was going to Australia with the one roommate?
That's weird though.

I hope he is punished to the utmost extent.

I saw this on 48 Hours Mystery Saturday night. How horrible.

I haven't read through all the links yet, but I wonder what Lilly (the suspects wife) has said about all this? At the end of Saturday night's show, it said that she has visited her husband in jail, but that's it. It didn't say whether she believed he was the killer or not.

I was wondering what Lilly thought too. I had nightmares last night after reading all those articles!!

I still can't imagine why he would be so jealous of her friend unless she knew something and was going to tell on him to keep her from marrying him. Cuz at the time, they were not married yet.

Just seems awfully weird.
