This happened in my folks' hometown, Hazard, KY, last year. I didn't see a thread for it. The murderer is unknown. Hazard's Topix board is full of chatter about the case, but I haven't delved too deeply into the facts yet. I thought perhaps some of my fellow Websleuthers could weigh in. Here are two recent articles:

Wow, sad there's no arrest. Some cases take years to solve.

This couple was quite wealthy, and Campbell was reportedly a tough negotiator in business. Two avenues to explore for possible motives right there.

Roy Campbell, 81, was a major landowner in Hazard who donated land to Appalachian Regional Healthcare for a hospital in the 1980s and later donated land for a Veterans Affairs center and various churches in the area. He sold land on Ky. 80 for development of the Wal-Mart and Lowe's shopping center on the west side of town...

Mr. Campbell and Wanda Campbell, 79, who was from Leslie County, had married three years earlier. The two, along with their respective first spouses, Mildred Campbell and A.B. Feltner, were friends as couples, said Lois Begley of Hyden, a former hairdresser and a friend of Wanda Campbell. They married after Mildred and A.B. died.

Police made no arrests at the time and the case quickly grew cold. Still, no matter how many years go by, family members will not stop searching for answers until someone is held responsible.

"Someone knows something," Justen said. "We just need that one person ... we need that burden to become so heavy to carry that they have to get it off them."
