Police have received several tips, but have not found the mother. The little one was full-term, of undetermined race. They are not releasing the gender yet.

Toxicology reports and a full autopsy are being performed.

    From the article:

The site, the Bait Barn at 12505 Yosemite Blvd., is at a key intersection for people traveling through the eastern part of the county or for fishing enthusiasts heading to Don Pedro Reservoir, New Melones Reservoir or Lake McClure.

"The area is heavily traveled, though at the time of night the infant was found, traffic is thinner," Bejaran said.

This article states that le have surveillance video and have some plates to check, although because of the angle, they cannot actually see the baby being placed in the barrel. So, if mom (or another person) walked to the scene, rather than driving, le are back to square one. I really hope that the mom comes forward so that this baby can be buried with a name and not just as a "baby Doe." I also really hope that this was not a murder, but since the baby was full-term and appeared healthy, according to reports, that is unlikely. Autopsy results should be returned within a few weeks. Why does it take so long?

Linked article also has photos of the scene. That sad little rhino, placed there, just makes it all the more heartbreaking. This was a human life.

I'm sure they have dna on file to perhaps id him or her one day. Sadly, there are many many cases like this which go unidentified. A search of NamUs by age only for infants, results in 184 cases. A search at NamUs by age only for fetus lists 49 cases. And those are just the cases that make it into NamUs, and we no the majority don't.

    Sleep peacefully little one.

Does anyone know if they run the dna against all others in the country ? Or only if they have a 'potential match' from a mother? I wonder since all inmates are DNA'd now. Would they randomly run it against the big data base ? Perhaps they could find an uncle, aunt, sibling somewhere in the justice side of the DNA data base and work back from there .
