Circumstances: On February 6, 1994, a human skull was found by hikers approx. one quarter mile south of state road 89. The skull was found in a crevice in a rugged area. Artist reconstruction of what he may have looked like.

White Male, 30-55

Hair: Brown with a touch of gray
Eyes: Color Unknown

Dental: Chart viewable in NamUs. Extensive dental work including gold fillings

DNA: Available but not yet submitted.

Location is right (State Road 89 goes right through Kanab) .
Timeframe is right (about six months)
Height is close (5'10" compared to UID's 6'0" estimate)
Age (34) is right
Hair Color might be.


James Zinza is another. (This is the second time this week, his name came up on one of my screens).

He doesn't have the flat looking nose like the recon.

But the timeline, age, and height are about right. And he has greying brown hair (indicated in his distinguishing characteristics).

I was looking at him a few minutes ago....I was trying to picture him with less facial hair, lol. Pretty compelling circumstantially though.
 
Brings up a good point, though. I wonder how many of these male UIDs stay that way because they wore a full beard in life. I know a man who's been married 40 years and his wife has never seen him without a beard. I was married to my husband 7 years before I saw him without a goatee. He looks completely different without it. It took me a long time to get used to it.

I turned James in a few years back to a UID in Arizona. They did the DNA comparison, and he wasn't a match. James brother's body was found here in PA last year and he suffered from mental illness. (Not exactly sure what the cause of death was, but they ruled out foul play).http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116336&highlight=zinza

James's profile states that he usually wore Levi's, the UID is said to have on Blue denim trousers, button fly waist size 33... just trying to think outside the box a little...

CarlK, I just noticed that Zinza's profile indicated he spent time in Flagstaff.
 
I have always felt that John William Wagner seemed like the obvious one here. My question is about DNA in NAMUS. The UID says that DNA has been completed and entered (Complete MtDNA and nearly complete STR). Wagner says "Sample Submitted- Test Complete". Does this mean he is an automatic rule out?

I'm a little confused here. There's an estimated height entered in Namus, but all clothes are listed as "with body", not on it, and it says all the hikers found was a skull. Did they find an entire body or not?

If the height is disregarded, Kenneth Welch disappeared while in Phoenix, but the listed police agency is Flagstaff.

They might have just entered it as a general “there’s clothes nearby” especially since it says UID was partial skeletal parts - they specify a human skull but also say “one or more limbs not recovered” which implies at least a skull and torso found.
