Jeremy lived with his mother, she was the one to find the bodies. The killer probably targeted Jeremy but had to kill Kyleigh because she was a witness and maybe knew the killer. Kyleigh would have been in school. They were found in the same room with no sign of forced entry.

"Kyleigh lived nearby with her family and Jeremy daily went to her home to help her parents by overseeing that she and her brother got on their school bus, but because she was sick, he brought her back home to supervise, said Kyleigh’s father, Josh Crane."

I was surprised this hasn't gotten more attention at Websleuths.
Family live close by. Uncle lived with his mom (Kyleigh's grandmom). Every morning he went to Kyleigh's house to make sure she and her brother got on the bus okay. Monday morning, K was sick, so Uncle took her back to his house (grandma's house) for the day. Last anyone saw them was 10 am. When K's grandma came home, she found them dead.
No one has come forward with information.
(Above is summarized from this article: http://www.indystar.com/article/201...aught-?odyssey=tab|mostpopular|text|FRONTPAGE)

Are gangs a problem in this area?
Was the uncle involved with any nefarious characters who would have been a danger? Not saying he was involved in bad stuff, but was he friends with anyone who was?
Girl was a dancer, looks like she competed from photos that are shared.

I hope they solve this crime.

ETA: Colette, We were typing at the same time, it looks like!

robbery gone bad? was Jeremy perhaps supposed to be elsewhere that day but canceled his plans to stay home with Kyleigh and the intruders didn't realize they would be there, expecting to burglarize the house?

I don't know what else to think, unless Jeremy owed money to someone ...

Kyleigh looked like such a little sweetie.

This guy does not at first blush sound like someone involved with gangs or nefarious connections. People involved with drugs and/or gangs don't tend to be people who will stop their shady behaviors every morning or afternoon to say "hey, it's such o'clock, I gotta go see to the safety of my nieces and nephews, they will be getting on/off the school bus soon."

I wonder if this young man had a vehicle of his own or not. My first thought based on the limited info available at this point is robbery gone bad. If the young man did not have a vehicle a burglar or burglars may not have expected anyone to be at home.

This is so sad. Why??? If it was a robbery gone wrong, wouldn't they still steal after the shooting, or would they not have ran when they saw someone home. Scary. I hope the perp is found so the family can have some answers.

It sounds personal. Reading the headlines, my first thought was drug related. But this kid doesn't sound like a kid who got into drugs. No forced entry and I am not hearing about any signs of a struggle. It sounds like someone he thought was a friend or maybe a relative had a beef with him. And probably the little girl was just because she was there.

now they're saying stuff is missing. i'm surprised more people aren't discussing this case.

Detectives filed a police report saying the family's XBOX 360 is nowhere to be found. There is also a PlayStation 3 missing from the house

Crane was an MCL cafeteria worker who lived with his mother. He was babysitting Kyleigh, who lived nearby with her family and stayed home from school Monday due to illness. She was a first grader at Liberty Park Elementary School and was a competitive dancer and a cheerleader.

"She loved to dance," Catherine Crane said of her 7-year-old granddaughter Kyleigh. "She was a competitive dancer and cheerleader."

She pleaded for anyone with information about the deaths to step forward.

"You can't tell me no one heard anything," she said. As for the killer or killers, she said, "You can't hide, and eventually you will get caught."

Catherine Crane said the Christmas season will never be the same because of the deaths of her son and granddaughter.

"I'm going to remember (this) every Christmas," she said. "I should never have walked in and saw what I saw."

She said she is certain her son "did everything he could do to save his niece. He wasn't out partying. He was hardworking."

She added, "This was my home. I can never walk into my home again."

Was hoping to post some more about Uncle Jeremy Crane but there is not much I am finding out there.

RIP Uncle Jeremy and Kyleigh.

I'm praying that little Kyleigh wasn't the target? This is just awful! Hope they catch who did this and fast!

An XBox and PlayStation stolen? I'm guessing this might be some weirdo "friend" or acquaintance of the uncle. I don't truly believe either one of them was a target. Just there when the shooter thought they wouldn't be.

So very sad. May they RIP.

Another sad story. If I ever wondered if the world were going to h3ll in a handbasket, I now feel like I have my answer.

Why kill an innocent 7 year old? Not saying uncle deserved it, either.

A joint visitation for Jeremy Crane, 21, and Kyleigh Crane will be held Dec. 17 from 1-5 p.m.
A joint funeral service will follow.
The visitation and funeral will be at the Community Life Center on the grounds of the Washington Park East Cemetery.

Wow... things have changed a lot in not so many years I guess. What happened to one piece dance costumes?
If Kyleigh had been abducted I would say I wasn't surprised. But the way this happened, it doesn't sound as if she was the target.
If she was only shot it sounds like she witnessed something and had to be eliminated.

But wow... I danced... my girls dance... and I guess I just know too much?
Anything that would be considered "sexy" on an adult is something my kids cannot wear. I worry about those other girls.
