RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) - Richmond police have the men involved in the apparent burglary at the Shockoe Bottom apartment where a missing 23-year-old lived, but investigators – at least at this point – don’t believe they had anything to do with the disappearance, according to a police source.

This case hits close to home, I am also a young professional living in the Shockoe area. If anyone needs a local perspective or any help with this case, please let me know.

I viewed these lofts when I moved to the area. They have a secure door, so the men who came back either had to have the door code or a badge to get inside. Once inside, it probably wouldn't be any more difficult to break into an apartment than any other home.

Matthew, your family, and friends, you are in my thoughts.

Hi there _mb_, I'm local to the area too. I also considered the lofts, but ended up elsewhere.

The area at 22nd Street and Dock Street that they are searching is along the Kanawha Canal which flows into the James River further down stream. I think this is beyond the flood wall as well.

This is the first article I've seen that released the suspects' names.

one of the defendants -- Andrew Lamar Scott, 21 -- also has been charged with felony conspiracy to commit abduction.
quiqui - just stopped by to post a similar article.

I avoid the area of Cary/Dock streets east of 15th street on foot after dark. Especially the area with all of the overpasses/train bridges/etc. Very little foot traffic, poor lighting, and plenty of places for people to hide in the shadows. If I get out of here before dark, I may walk around that area.

I do too. That area under 95 where the flood wall crosses Dock Street is pretty isolated at night I imagine. I've walked through that area and along the Canal Walk during the day...I'll see if I can find my photos.

    ---Edit----

This is Dock Street (where the car is) underneath interstate 95 and railroad tracks. You can also see the flood wall.

This is where the flood wall crosses Dock Street. This is between 18th and 19th.

This isn't a great picture, but it kind of shows what the Kanawha Canal looks like. The pavement is part of Canal Walk, beyond the grassy area is the canal, and Dock Street is behind me. This is closer to 19th street, so close to Matthew's apartment.

I'm hoping that police know more than they're letting on. Seems like they're only focusing on the canal.

Not to be morbid, but when I heard the trash trucks going through this morning at 4am, I wonder if they should be searching local landfills as well. Matthew disappeared on a Tuesday night. I live near 13th, so I'm just guessing that 14th-19th have the same schedule.
