Unhappy SC - Autistic girl's service dog found dead

Autistic girl's service dog found dead
    Sunday, December 18, 2011

MONCKS CORNER — The body of an autistic girl's service dog that was reported missing last week was dumped in their front yard Sunday night.

The mother said it was clear that somebody killed him.

'They killed our dog and dropped it off in our yard,' said Kelly Noland, the mother of the girl. 'He had been hit in the face with a bat. He was still warm.'

Toby, a 3-year-old black and white American bull terrier, was snatched from the family's front yard Tuesday morning. He was specially trained to help their autistic child, 9-year-old Allie Noland. Toby made sure Allie was safe and often helped her communicate

I am so sorry for this family. The depravity of humans never ceases to amaze me.

Sick someone would do this to an animal.

I use to teach Special Ed. and worked with autistic children. It sickens me that someone purposely did this. Not only did the dog keep the child safe but I'm sure gave the child unconditional love that won't easily be replaced.

All dogs are special but service dogs are even more so.

Please keep us informed if possible. I hope and pray he gets jailed for this.
What is wrong with people? Animals have more feeling than some of them.

This one hurts so much. My heart goes out to that little girl. Her dog gave her the opportunity to bond to another living being, he watched out for her safety. He was her hope for a better future. I have no clue as to how much this will hurt her and her progress.

The animals here are those who killed this precious companion. I do hope they are caught and arrested.

This sickens me. Why would anyone do such a thing? It sounds like they have a fairly good description of who took him, and if it's a small town, the killer might be caught--and punished. Too bad it won't be "an eye for an eye"--they ought to suffer as much as the dog suffered.

I hope that the family will get another dog for Allie. I know it feels like too much heartbreak right now, but I think it would be a good thing....Just don't leave the dog in the front yard this time.
