Three days after a 71-year-old Salinas woman's son was arrested on suspicion of killing her, police are still combing the Central Coast for her body.

Anyone who saw Janet Sorenson or Christopher Sorenson in the past week is urged to contact the Salinas Police Department's Investigations Division at 831-758-7226.

A man accused of slaying his 71-year-old mother in her Salinas home pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, prosecutors said. Christopher Sorenson, 31, beat his mother, piano teacher Janet "Nene" Sorenson, to death. He will be sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison...

Her body was found on New Year's Eve dumped at the base of a cliff in rural San Benito County. She died from blunt-force trauma injuries. Police said when they searched Janet Sorenson's house, they found traces of blood in the bedroom, kitchen, garage and bathroom.

Christopher Sorenson has schizophrenia... Monterey County prosecutors had pushed for him to be committed to a mental institution against his will. But a jury ruled against locking him involuntarily inside an institution because of "insufficient evidence." A month later, Janet Sorenson was dead.
