A Wilmington woman who disappeared while walking her dog Monday morning is thought to have been abducted, police say.

Oh no.... I just found this while looking for more info. Sounds like a hit (and grab) and run. :(

Body found in area where Del. woman went missing

The body was found in the same area where a female resident may have been abducted while walking her dog.

........

A witness told authorities that while walking in the area he heard what he described as screeching tires and observed a red Hummer SUV with tinted windows parked at the intersection.

The witness also told police, that a black male believed to be in his 30s then put something in the truck, and pulled off.

Several hours later, a patrol officer spotted a red Hummer with tinted windows driving in the same neighborhood.

The vehicle was pulled over, the driver was brought in for questioning, and the car was impounded.

Police on the scene found shoes and a hat on the roadway where the woman was last seen.

I'm not sure if this sounds like a hit/grab/run, or an abduction.

About 9:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the intersection of Lowell Road and Matson Run Parkway to investigate a suspicious person.

When police arrived, officers found articles of clothing in the road and talked to a witness who told officers that while he was walking in the area, he heard the screeching of tires and saw a red Hummer SUV with tinted windows at the intersection, said Master Sgt. Paul Reutter.

The witness said he saw a man in his 30s putting something into the SUV from the driver's side rear door, and then the man sped off west on East Matson Run Parkway.

A second witness also confirmed the account, Reutter said.

Wow! What would they want with a elderly lady walking a dog? Did she have a purse with her that screamed "money"? There must be more to this story but, sad as it is, I'm glad her body was found.
There seems to be a neverending stream of missing people around Christmas.

A Wilmington man has been charged with abducting and killing a 65-year-old woman who was walking her dog Monday morning.
Dwight L. Smith, of the 200 block of west 36th Street, was charged with with two counts of Murder 1st Degree and one count of Kidnapping 1st Degree. Smith was arraigned and taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility. He is being held without bail.

The suspect's father said, "The kid that I sent over there with them is not the man that they sent me back. My thoughts and prayers go out to the other family. Because this is a tragedy for two families,"

Comments after this article confirm that. How sad... all the way around.

I had seen this in the paper, but after learning today that Mrs Lee's daughter was a close friend & graduated from SCAD with a friend of mine, I came to see what had been written on WS.
