SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A decorated Army soldier recovering from injuries suffered in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan has been shot at his homecoming party, and family members say he’s paralyzed and in critical condition.

Christopher Sullivan, 22, was shot late Friday while trying to break up a fight between his brother and another man at a San Bernardino, Calif., residence.

"My son didn’t deserve this. He served his country," his mother, Suzanne Sullivan, told the San Bernardino Sun.

Family members are calling on the shooter to surrender.

Police have not identified the suspect.

Stories like this just leave me shaking my head. A fight over football? This man survived a war and suicide bomber to be left paralyzed over football?

And who brings a gun to a homecoming party?

People are unbelievable. Praying that Christopher heals beyond what the doctors are suggesting.

Police arrest suspect in Calif. soldier shooting

Police on Monday arrested the suspect in a shooting that critically wounded a soldier at his Southern California homecoming party after he survived a suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan.

Police said Ruben Ray Jurado, 19, was being sought in the attempted murder of 22-year-old Christopher Sullivan before turning himself in to authorities in Chino Hills on Monday. Jurado was transferred to the custody of the San Bernardino police department where he will be booked, officials said.

Fabian Salazar, a soldier who served with Sullivan in Afghanistan, said Sullivan rushed back to try to rescue other soldiers after the bomb blast propelled him several feet, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.

"I know he would take a bullet for his brother," Salazar told the newspaper. "And if you asked him again after all this... if he would take a bullet for him again, he would say yes. That's the type of person he is."

    Angry

Pray for a miracle that Christopher Sullivan will not be paralyzed. It's sickening that a soldier who served his country is shot at over football. There are scumbags out there.

Attempted murder charge for man accused of shooting soldier

Los Angeles (CNN) -- The man accused of shooting and paralyzing a U.S. Army soldier at a homecoming party in the soldier's honor faces one count of attempted murder, the spokesman for the San Bernardino, California, district attorney said Tuesday.

District Attorney Michael Ramos filed the charge Tuesday against 19-year-old Ruben Jurado, spokesman Christopher Lee said. He also filed "four special allegations involving premeditation and the use and discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury," the DA's office said in a statement.

I heard on HLN today that the only thing keeping the soldier alive is because he is on life support.

Heard the same thing earlier this week. I believe it was his mother who said (to the effect) that being on life-support was preventing him from movement which could cause further injuries. His brother has also said he's opening his eyes more now, however.

    Extremely sad.
