An illegal alien who is also a felon came back into the country illegally and only months later is charged with raping, beating, biting, and ultimately taking a one month old baby's life. The mother was at a casino gambling. There is no punishment harsh enough in my mind. Even death is too good for him.

"According to a criminal complaint, sheriff's deputies found a 4-week-old baby girl battered, with blood pooling around her clothes all the way into the footie of her Onesie. Officers said the baby had two black eyes, a bite mark on her cheek, brain bleeds, a lacerated liver and anal and vaginal tearing. The 911 operator asked the family to perform CPR, but it was too late.
"The baby's gone," the caller said."

My mind is reeling....I can not convey into words the hatred I feel for this disgusting thing of a human being......

Did Mom leave the baby in his care? Who was supposed to be responsible for the baby while Mom was out carousing? Disgusting. These thugs seem to be everywhere these days. I don't know if there is an actual increase in child abuse cases or if it is just better access to information and news. Either way, it is terribly disheartening.

As John Salveson, my mentor and founder of the Foundation to Abolish Child Sex Abuse, has said, "Outrage is easy. Outrage is comfortable. Outrage makes us feel good about ourselves and our moral superiority. But unless it is transformed into real action, outrage is useless."

Okay, so what can we do - how do we transform our outrage into action? We have got to figure this out!!

The mother was at a casino per the report. How much you want to bet she was prostituting or selling his drugs. He was on the meth when he raped/killed the infant..and has been known to be involved in drug trafficking previously.

Cases like this make me want to ask God ...why?

And what do we do? Stiffer laws don't work. Harsher penalties don't work. Knowing that child sex abuse preventable in many cases if parents would just take care of their own children doesn't work. Public awareness doesn't work. Sex offender registries don't work. Publicly decrying these crimes as reprehensible and unforgiveable doesn't work.

I'm starting to think that the best we can do is offer more in the way of support to survivor's and harsher penalties for "fringe players" of the crimes like this, like the mother that wanted her gambling trip. Make it illegal for parents to leave children with anyone but a biological parent or state ordered care, but even that won't help, as plenty of kids are killed by a bio parent. I'm not even outraged anymore, just resigned. This will keep happening. That's the sad reality. Even the threat of the death penalty for sexual assault wouldn't help.

The only idea I can come up, and it is unrealistic, is to use hormones to control the sex drives and physical responses of the entire population, issuing everyone a card for a certain time of year that they can procreate...obviously that won't happen, and I wouldn't really support it if it did, but nothing else is going to work.

For those of you who know me, you know that I spent more than 6 months working feverishly on a database of child abusers. I had tracked 500 offenders. I just needed to do something about the horrors I was reading here. But then I stopped. One, I need a programmer to help me get it up online and expand it. The other reason is I couldn't decide if all of the work I put into it was going to do any good whatsoever.

I thought it would be good if people could look up offenders in their area. I thought it could be used to pressure Child Protective Services to make some changes as I had also tracked cases that had CPS involvement prior to the crime. I found out which states had the weakest sentences for offenders. But, then I couldn't figure out what to do with all of the information I had gathered. I am homebound and can only gather the information. I finally became so distressed that I left Websleuths for quite some time and stopped working on the database. So, now I'm stuck. What do I do with it? Is it of any use? Should I continue working on it?

It is so difficult to continually read these cases and not be able to do anything about it. So, as stated above, where do we go from here? Any thoughts?

I don't have "the answer" - Wish I did. God knows if I did I'd have put a stop to the abuse of children along time ago... With that said, I cannot accept that we should simply previde treatment after the fact. That, IMO, is like waiting for the house to burn down before calling/sending in the fire department. I don't think there is ONE answer. I think it needs to be a collection of things - by things, I mean harsher laws, such as longer sentences for first offenses and mandatory life sentences for second offenses, charge & prosecute those (caregivers/parents) who should have reasonably known (RSO) the person they allowed access to their child was a danger, more prevention/protection education in schools for kids, stricter reporting laws that mandate anyone/everyone (adults) who seriously suspect abuse to report it, sexual abuse awareness billboards plastered everywhere with toll-free helpline numbers (a number that even a child could easily remember), counseling clinics specifically for potential/newly released SO's (mandatory attendence required upon release!). What we need to do is declare war on child abusers (eg.,war on drugs) and show all perps AND potential perps that we mean business. There should be a mandatory weekly televised report in every state, and accessible via the internet, showing pics/names of all absconded SO's and rewards for calling and turning their whereabouts in - this is all just a start but I firmly believe that it has to be a collection of actions that send a very clear message, "Don't touch a child!"

JMO~

Don't forget education of the things you might see if a child has been abused. And it should be very detailed even as to physical characteristics. Because it is hard to tell what is abuse and what is not.

I can remember rushing my DD to the doctor because as 3 or 4 year old her private area was very reddened. Turns out it was just a type of irritation that was normal for little girls. But I was scared.

Yep, he was babysitting.

None of the candidates for President seem to care. I haven't heard one statement that confirms that any of them care one iota.

I think we need leaders like John Walsh and Marc Klaas in office.

nomoresorrow - just wanted to let you know that my frustration was not with you in any way. Just frustrated with the circumstances and that nothing ever seems to really change.

As they say, every time they build a better mousetrap, someone builds a better mouse. The law is barely keeping up, and is so concerned with the rights of the perpetrator/accused, and all that happens because of it is more and more scarred, mutilated and murdered children...so, it's not you, it's the situation.

from Op's link - Immigration officials said Galindo, a convicted felon, may face 20 years in prison just for coming back into the country. Investigators said it's still unclear if anyone else will face charges in the incident. -

"Court documents also said Galindo had tried to revive the baby, but when he couldn't, he took her lifeless body outside and sat with her on the porch for three hours." another quote from OP link article. imo, anyone else in the household at the time or knew he was baby sitting should be held accountable.

RIP sweet baby.

:seeya: I hear ya not_my_kids - I think we're all just sick n' tired of it and we feel like we're :banghead: day after day after day...

When he was 19 years old, link - "Court records show his criminal history is in New Mexico and Texas. One of the charges includes an assault and injury to a child conviction in Texas in 1993. Galindo is now facing charges for sexually assaulting a 1-month-old and child abuse resulting in death." - bbm

another quote from link - "The criminal complaint identifies Galindo as the boyfriend of the dead infant's mother. He lists his emergency contact on his booking sheet as his wife, a different woman."

How many other victims does this repeat offender have?

We keep hearing about women giving their children over to 'babysitters' like THIS. Male ex felons ,who seem like unreliable babysitters. But then I ask myself, why does this keep happening? And I imagine that many women , living this life, have no other women to support them or help them. So they allow their psycho boyfriends to 'babysit.'

If LE starts charging these women, then maybe they will be more careful as to whom they allow to babysit. In this case the guy was an illegal alien and a convicted felon who reportedly told police he used meth while babysitting (mother was reportedly at the casino while this guy was babysitting). Hardly seems like a good choice for a babysitter.

Ya know, the more I read about cases like this, the more I start to wonder just what we have done people over the last years? Is it something controllable that is literally causing diminished mental capacity?

I understand that society has changed. More women are working outside the home, more people end up in situations where it is necessary to leave their children with people that charge less than a traditional day care or risk losing their jobs.

It used to be that people might take a day off for themselves once a week or once a month, but it was always with the same babysitter, and if they couldn't find a sitter that they trusted, they didn't go. But what's so bad is that people seem to be genuinely trusting these abusers and killers. The law and the speed of information are trying valiantly to catch up, providing people with more avenues to access information about individuals every day, and people are literally too stupid to use it, too naive to seek out the resources, or too damaged to care. And I'm not saying stupid as a slam on any particular parent that does it, I'm saying stupid, as in, it seems like the population is losing IQ points. At least large percentages of the population.

Step in a time machine, go back to the fifties, and watch what would happen, if a woman went to her friends house, and told them that she left her one month old with her boyfriend so she could go gambling, jaws would literally drop, and that woman might be committed...and today people are doing it every day.

OMG this is beyond sick.

Could we maybe start emailing potential candidates/candidates for office? Could someone come up with a standard plea on behalf of all children?
