Yikes this sounds like a bad area...

Corey Brown recently told The Topeka Capital-Journal that he was one of the managers at Hudson Liquor, located on the northwest corner of the center.

Hudson Liquor employee Matt Hill, 41, was shot and killed during a Christmas Eve robbery the afternoon of Dec. 24. Matthew Myers, 44, of Topeka, was arrested last week in connection with Hill’s slaying.

It had alot of trouble the past couple months. Also, a shooting in November at the convenience store. Both robberies, I believe. It is also right next to the I-70 on-ramp - which makes for a quick, easy get away.

But it is surprising to me that his phone was there, if he was taken by force, JMO.

RIP Corey and prayers for the family and, especially his children. May justice be swift.

From January 2014:

Monroe Eugene Lockhart III thought business partner Corey Brown had disrespected him in January 2012 when he refused to intervene on Lockhart's behalf in a dispute with Brown's father.

Lockhart consequently "shot Mr. Brown twice in the side of the head," Jacqie Spradling, deputy Shawnee County district attorney, said Thursday as she provided the factual basis for two murder pleas made by Lockhart.

Lockhart, 40, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the Jan. 3, 2012, slaying of Brown, 39, his best friend and business partner, and the Valentine's Day 2000 shooting death of Damon J. Anderson, 25. Both victims were Topeka men.

From February 2014:

A judge sentenced Monroe Lockhart III to two consecutive life sentences of 25 years each Friday afternoon for the murders of 39-year-old Corey Brown in 2012 and 25-year-old Damon Anderson in 2000...

Lockhart is already serving a nearly 10 year sentence for a home invasion in which a woman was branded with a hot knife. Then after serving today’s sentence of 50 years in prison, Lockhart will be eligible for parole in 2073.
