Courthouse sources said Amber Beth Gibson sat in her jail cell cheerfully playing cards as Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson told the world Gibson has been charged in the beating death of 3-year-old Emily Madison Barnard.

When Emily’s father, Eric Barnard, received the news shortly after a Tuesday press conference he began to cry, according to his attorney, Mark Stapleton.

-------------------

It stated that Emily died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head.

-----------------------

Prior to the gag order being signed, however, Lawson described Emily’s death as one of the most heinous events he has witnessed in his 30-plus-year law enforcement career.

Emily suffered bruises all over her body including massive head injuries.

“This child suffered,”
Lawson told the Times-News in July.

Gibson’s bond has been increased from $250,000 for the robbery charge to $500,000, and she is scheduled for arraignment on the murder and child abuse charges in Hawkins County Criminal Court on Feb. 3.

-------------------------

Any fond feelings Eric Barnard had for Amber Gibson disappeared
when she called him July 23 to say Emily had been injured, Stapleton said.

“I think his emotions turned at that moment and continue to get further away from Amber,” Stapleton said.

“I think he’s glad that the sheriff’s department has her instead of him
.
I’ll say it that way. He’s very angry

She should be glad she's in custody instead of available to the family as well...

I am still unable to comprehend the act of beating a child to death. It just does not compute. I try to imagine it in my mind and I just can't. The viciousness of the person doing the damage to these poor children is astounding. Like mad dogs.

What a vile human being. I will never understand what could drive a person to do such a thing.I have tears in my eyes reading this!!

rest peacefully little one:(

The judge has issued a gag order in this case....
Also, details of the autopsy report will not be released until the trial.

It appears that the next hearing is not until October.

People are angry because Amber apparently could have been charged and jailed in another case (maybe the robbery) before Emily's death... but she was still free.

This is also why family foster care is often questionable.
Grandpa had custody for a reason... but let Dad have Emily live with him... and Dad let the girlfriend babysit Emily.

What a beautiful little girl. Thank you MsFacetious for the update. I will never understand killing a child over a soiling accident. My 5 yr old is still in pull-ups at night and had an accident at school yesterday (she's in kindergarten). She cried so hard when I picked her up. She was so embarrassed because it happened in front of 2 other parents. My heart just broke for her. But she did feel better when I reminded her that she wasn’t the 1st in her class to have an accident (happened to another classmate the 1st week of school). When are people going to understand that kids have accidents, kids make messes, and it’s your job as their caretaker to make sure that they understand that these things are not the end of the world?

She wasn't getting high enough... so she snapped.
Whatever...

Poor little innocent child. Amber is a monster... she had that right - and she deserves to spend the rest of her life behind bars for taking the life of Emily.
