Charges at Last Against Mother and Uncle of Jassi Sidhu

The RCMP’s E Division spokesperson, Cpl. Annie Linteau, broke some big news Friday evening – after 11 years, the mother of slain newlywed Jassi Sidhu, and Sidhu’s uncle, have finally been charged for their alleged role in her contracted killing in India.

The young Maple Ridge beautician went to India to marry the love of her life – a poor rickshaw driver named Mithu Sidhu. Her wealthy family back here in B.C. was furious she had violated their wishes.

She was tortured and murder. Mithu was also attacked but survived.

The mother and uncle were suspects in her murder all along, but only the hired killers went to trial in India – until now.

Now Malkit Kaur Sidhu, 63, and Surjit Singh Badesha, 67, have been arrested and will face an extradition hearing in B.C. Supreme Court to see if they’ll be extradited to India.

British Columbia’s highest court has ruled the mother and uncle of a young woman who was slain in India could be tortured if sent to face criminal charges, ordering Ottawa to better ensure their safety abroad or consider charging them in Canada.

The Department of Justice says it is considering next steps and one legal expert expects the case to head to the Supreme Court of Canada...

The B.C. Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Malkit Sidhu and Surjit Badesha in a split decision Friday.

I'd send them home and not worry about it in the slightest..

"VANCOUVER — The federal government says two British Columbia residents have been extradited to India to face conspiracy charges after they allegedly hired men to kill a young woman and her new husband in that country nearly 20 years ago.

The Justice Department says Malkit Kaur Sidhu and her brother Surjit Singh Badesha were escorted to India by the RCMP and arrived there early Thursday morning."

"Sidhu and Badesha are accused of conspiracy in the murder of Sidhu’s daughter Jassi Sidhu in June 2000 after she went to India to marry a man they disapproved of.

Sidhu’s husband was severely beaten but survived the attempt on his life."
