Last night, before appearing on the Dr. Drew Show on HLN, I had a chance to speak with John Q. Kelly, the attorney for the mother of Natalee Holloway.

Kelly, a no-nonsense and brilliant former Federal prosecutor, filled me in on a plan to return Joran to the US to face wire fraud and extortion charges related to the Dutchman’s alleged attempt to sell the location of Natalee’s body for $250,000.

According to Kelly a plan is already in the works to bring Van der Sloot to Alabama within the next several months. Kelly told me that after the US trial and hopeful conviction on charges carrying a sentence of thirty years, he would then be returned to Peruvian custody.

I have to admit the plan seemed a little hair-brained when I first heard of it, but then I thought of the William Trickett Smith case. Smith is an American accused of murdering his wife in Peru. The US sent Smith back to Peru after authorities here felt Peru had accumulated enough evidence for a conviction. After all our two countries do have extradition treaties.

It is Kelly’s hope that after a trial in Alabama, van der Sloot would be sent back to Peru to serve his entire sentence there. That’s fifty-eight years in prison folks.

Whether this plan will pan out remains to be seen. But it would explain the calm demeanor of Stephany’s father, Ricardo Flores, in court during Van der Sloot’s sentencing. Was he aware of a secret legal strategy that could have Joran in prison for the rest of his life?

If anyone has any questions about the case please fire away.

My co-author Lisa Pulitzer and I have the entire Peruvian case file as well as ongoing access to many of the key players.

Kelly strikes me as a bit of a duffus ... this is the same guy whose client went to Peru to taunt a criminal ... and he knew nothing about it?

V.d.Sloot is facing federal, not Alabama, fraud charges. Why would it be heard in Alabama ... in Beth's backyard. If these are ligitimate charges, they are filed in federal count and not subject to Alabama law ... therefore not heard there ... I think.

IMHO....Beth was not "taunting" a criminal. She was trying to find out where he put her daughter's body. All Beth wants is to bring her baby home and give her the decent burial she deserves.

Kelly is a very respected and capable attorney, btw.

Of course the charges are legitimate. There's all kinds of evidence that leads right to Joran.

There are federal courts in Alabama, and the VICTIM lives here. It is the appropriate venue.

Sorry guys for asking this question, it might have already been answered but I just worked a 9 hour shift so I'm very tired and had to get on here and check, but how did Ludwick and Joran become friends? Ludwick is in DC right? Also, I wonder about the 2 boys that were with him in Aruba, haven't heard anything about them since they were arrested....

Ludwick was in Aruba at the time selling time shares. I believe he lives in VA now. He met JVS shortly after his father died so he really didn't even know him for any length of time before JVS took off for Peru.I don't understand his devotion other than he's looking for his fifteen minutes.

The Kalpoe brothers thought they would take a que from their mentor and make a quick buck so they sued Dr. Phil and his show for defamation claiming that an audio tape played on the show was altered. Seems they miscalulated since Dr. Phil didn't back down and pay off like a slot machine as they anticipated. Their lawyers have dragged their feet and stalled the case to date. But their days are numbered and it's not going to be pretty when they're finally forced to testify, IMO. I'm curious who is funding their legal fees.

I'm not even going to address the remarks as to who has taunted who regarding this case. :banghead:

Nancy Grace

“Friend of Joran van der Sloot” – it’s not a title most people would be proud of, but for the murder suspect’s self-proclaimed American friend, John Ludwick, it’s one that he seems to embrace. The way Ludwick tells it, the two met at a gas station in Aruba and became fast friends, gambling at a local casino most nights.

<snip>

Interestingly, Ludwick who was house-sitting in Aruba, would leave the island on May 10th – just 2 ½ months after they first met and the same day Joran would meet Beth Holloway’s attorney, John Q. Kelly, as part of an alleged plot to extort money from her.

I'm sure the FBI has a few questions for Mr. Ludwick - those he didn't want to answer on NG. JMO

In other JVS news, it seems he not only had time to write his 'guardian angel' before being shipped to his new location but that he allowed the Dutch press to view and photograph it. He's not happy that Ms. Mary got him in trouble with the other prisoners. :D Also reveals he intends to appeal his sentence. Go for it, Joran.

Ludwick sold time share? That makes perfect sense - lying comes easily. PERFECT career for Casey, in fact. Joran would have done pretty good as well. Seriously, those people fit into a very special mold. I did it for about 6 months 25 years ago, and quit - ugh.

As has always been suspected:

"During his stay in Bangkok in 2008, police, in addition suspecting Van Der Sloot of sex trafficking, also wanted to question him over the disappearance of several young Thai women."

Thank you suzihawk - I asked this yesterday, but could only find NE articles. He's obviously done this more than we know about, and he's gotten away with it. When he killed Stephani, I think he planned to clean up and get rid of her body or make up the story about Peruvian cops jacking them, but he realized there were cameras. Remember one of the frames of the video when he was taking the coffee back to the room and there was an "oh chit" look on his face?

I hope they find the Thailand women or they don't have a prayer of convicting him.

JVDS just happened to write a letter to MH on the same day that he was sentenced and allows the Dutch media to film it? Riiiight

In essence, it was just another one of JVDS' attempts to make himself the victim and use it as the excuse for not sending back MH's money. According to JVDS, Jimenez wanted to give it back as soon as MH asked.

Will MH ever come to the realization that she was merely used and scammed?

Joran, Casey and Psychopathic Narcissism: A Forensic Commentary

As Joran van der Sloot's now public psychological evaluation from prison reportedly suggests, the person suffering from and cruelly causing others to suffer from psychopathic narcissism is fundamentally an immature, selfish, self-centered, resentful and raging child inside a powerful adult body. They are angry with their parents, angry with authority, angry with God, angry with life. They have been hurt, abused, emotionally wounded, deprived, overindulged, spoiled, abandoned or neglected in various ways--some grossly and some much more subtly--and are still bitterly lashing out against the world. Against society. Against authority. And, perhaps, in van der Sloot's case, lashing out against women in particular. When you have a pissed-off, impulsive five or ten-year-old in a big, strong body, with the freedom to do just as he pleases--drive a car, drink, gamble, travel, have sex, do drugs, exploit, intimidate and bully others and generally get his own way--you have an extraordinarily dangerous person capable of the most evil deeds.

Thanks so much for answering my question. I told my husband that I'm sure Ludwick knows something I'm sure Joran told him what hapepned to Natalee, just like he told that Dutch reporter....and I actually believe he told the truth to that Dutch reporter and when asked about it he of course admitted he lied. I just don't understand how somebody could lie so much over and over and NOT get in trouble for it. I think I read his parents made him move into an apartment in the back of their house, because they were afraid of him hurting his brothers....

And i too saw where they wanted to question him about the Thai girls, it was also on the lifetime movie about Natalee....

So am I reading this right, MH wants her money back from Joran? Did she change her mind after he was found guilty?

Yeppers. As someone else mentioned upthread (or other thread - I believe it was Cole Thompson) it's quite a coincidence how close the amount is to what he was charged to pay in restitution to the Flores family.

Oh... and emails also show a rental contract for JVS to lease an apartment in the district of Magdalena for $1500 (US) a month. The only thing I can figure is I remember some motion or other about them not being able to hold him for longer than 18 months before trial. $1500! Really?

Wasn't Paul's explanation about what he did the morning after the disappearance that he went to the bank to deposit his son's casino winnings - even though v.d.Sloot junior was only 17 years old? Why would his father be so prompt with the bank deposit if it wasn't routine? Why didn't me make the deposit on the weekend weekend or a time when it didn't conflict with going to work? Seems odd.
Otto hope you dont mind. I want to comment about yours above in the last thread closed -

I also think the above is strange. It frankly makes me wonder if the parents themselves,or the father at least, wasn't somehow depending on Joran earning at the Casino? If winnings are substantial and consistent to any degree, regardless of the eprson's age winning, such fuinds could become a habitual expectation by parents!

Was Joran's father actually promoting Joran gambling at the Casino?

I have thought all along there are ADULTS supporting if not actually
benefitting from the actions of these "kids". Joran's father even stands on the claim he was out 'depostiing Joran's earnings' ? How much are we talking about? I gather this is not at the level of paper-route-money! ?
Something far more substantial, from time to time.

Where do the adults fit into this whole saga? Kalpoes - Joran - etal ?

Bringing Bravo's post over from the previous thread.

Bravo
Was it the beating of his brother that prompted Joran then staying in the guesthouse on the family property? If memory serves me???

Yes that's what I recall too, I couldn't remember how old he was, if he was 16 or 17, but it was definitely before NH went to Aruba.

JC also said several times that JVDS' problems started back into his childhood. I wish I could find one of the interviews. She was on a panel with Joe Tacopina and she was talking about his issues, iirc she had reports with her at the time.

JT in his usual fashion started going on about what a perfect, wonderful kid JVDS was until he was unfairly targeted over NH. JC immediately said no way, it started long before that, from back in his childhood.
