Canada - Clemence Umugwaneza, 26, Montreal QC, 11 Jan 2012

MONTREAL - Police are stumped by a woman’s disappearance from her Cartierville home nearly a week ago and on Monday they went all out searching for clues to her whereabouts, with a command post, police dogs and cops going door-to-door.

Clémence Umugwaneza, 26, was last seen about 9 p.m. on Jan. 11 when she left the home she shares with relatives in Cartierville “to go for a walk and get some air,” Montreal police Constable Raphaël Bergeron said. She left without any identification or money on her, he added.

hmmmm......is she a Canadian Citizen? Was she here visiting? I'm confused.

In an interview with The New Times, Eugene Ngoga, the First Consular at Rwanda's High Commission in Canada, said that the embassy was notified of the disappearance.

"By last evening (Tuesday), she had not been found yet. We have our diplomat in Montreal following up on the issue but, for now, we can only wait for Police to tell us what they find out."

"We hope to hear from Police... We are also in touch with her family. We will let you know if more information comes in," Ngoga said.

    Umugwaneza's family lives in Canada.

I think she has lived in Canada for some time since several articles say she went missing from her Cartierville home.
    Clemence is a Rwandan-Canadian, measuring 1.70 metres (5'7") and weighing 90 kilograms (198 lbs).

A 26-year old Rwandan woman in Canada reportedly went missing, last week, in the vast North American country and her whereabouts are yet to be known.

Is a dual citizenship possible with Rwanda/Canada?

The involvement of the Rwandan Embassy makes it likely that she's a Rwandan citizen; of course, that doesn't mean that she wasn't a permanent resident of Canada (i.e., not just visiting, just not a citizen).

I would assume she is permanent residence, going for citizenship but I could be wrong. From my experience living in parts of Africa and being involved with the community here, even when a full citizen lives are still fairly intertwined with home, the embassies, etc. In many cities the embassy will have annual parties or host events for things like independance day, etc.

I wouldn't be at all surprised even if she were a Canadian Citizen(Rwandan born) for the embassy to have been contacted about her.

I am praying she is found safe, her poor family.

Police expand search for missing woman

Montreal police are expanding their search for a 26-year-old woman who mysteriously disappeared after leaving her Montreal home two weeks ago.

Clémence Umugwaneza was reported missing on Jan. 11 after she left her home for a walk with only an MP3 player.

Police set up a command post with a canine unit in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough Tuesday, near the intersection of Charles Gill Street and Acadie Boulevard. Police originally set up a command post in her neighbourhood more than a week ago, and they searched Les Galeries Normandie shopping centre.

Umugwaneza is five feet five inches and weighs about 200 pounds. When she left her home, she was wearing a black tuque, and a long black coat.

Anyone with information should call Info-Crime at (514) 393-1133.

She left with only an MP3 player and did not take her purse or any identification with her.

"It's like a nightmare. We usually hear about things like this in the movies", the missing woman's sister, Clementine, told Global's Domenic Fazioli.

Umugwaneza suffers from anemia but her family says she does not have any other health problems.

"We still have no information it's really hard for us. We know something happened you know," said her sister Sabrina Uwera.

Police have repeatedly combed the area and continue to do door-to-doors. However they say that such inexplicable disappearances are extremely rare.

"They're really desperate to find any kind of information to help them find Clemence because we really have no idea where she is," said Montreal police rep Anie Lemieux.

Meanwhile every day is like torture for her family.

"It's been 13 days but it feels like months. The days are so long and it's really tough for us," said Uwera.
