The body of the man — believed to have been in his 50s, about 5 feet 9 inches and weighing about 150 pounds — was found by deer hunters on Nov. 4, 2010, in the woods off Route 11.

Officials from the state medical examiner’s office said there are no signs of foul play and estimate the man may have died in early September 2010.

Christopher Mooney is the right height, LKA in June.
But there might be some circumstances suggesting that he died locally in Georgia.
Neither is Chris Mooney, the 52-year-old car salesman who has been missing since June 2. Investigators aren't discussing details of the case but say they found blood-stained bedding stuffed in a garbage can behind his apartment at 230 1/2 East 52nd Street.

Christopher Frank Robinson is another Chris who fits the description. He was wearing a "stocking cap" when he disappeared. I wouldn't describe the UID's cap as a "stocking cap" though. The UID's cap is more accurately described as a "watch cap" or a "beanie".

His circumstances also suggest that he probably died locally.

BBM. I wonder if the description of the hat is a regional thing. Here in the midwest, I grew up always calling those hats stocking hats or stocking caps. It honestly wasn't until I read about them here, in another case, they are also called beanies or something other than stocking caps.

Kind of like some people say gym shoes, others say tennis shoes, or some folks say soda, pop or a coke.

Just thought I would toss out there that growing up we always called them stocking hats. (I now call them just a winter hat).

Just to confuse matters more, if pressed to describe that hat, I'd call it a "knit hat".

The shirt he was wearing costs around $100 alone. The other clothes are nice brands as well. This guy was not homeless. High Sierra is not a cheap brand either. The shoes are nice as well. I think that the hat is throwing everyone off. It does not fit with the rest of his attire. I think it was put on to cause difficulty in identifying him. JMHO

I would think that Sean Downing should be considered in this case. He went missing from Portland, Maine on 3/1/2010. Height, weight, and age all fit. http://charleyproject.org/cases/d/downing_sean.html. I think the Chris hat is just a red herring.

Thank you CherBearSTL - Sean's NamUs profile is no longer active!

do you think Sean has been found?

I suspect so, due to the NamUs profile being removed. I cannot find anything on the Internet. I'll send a quick email to the Portland Police Department.

Will post if I hear anything back.

An officer from the Portland Police Department was kind enough to phone me this morning to let me know that Sean Downing had indeed been located.

Also found with the body was a black High Sierra briefcase containing three empty juice and water bottles, two spray cans of the insect repellent OFF and a brown sweater, size medium.

Am I the only one who finds this odd? A briefcase containing juice/water bottles, two cans of bug spray, and a sweater?

I'm not sure what's up with the hat. My first reaction is that it's not his, and that his name isn't Chris.

Maybe I've missed it, but I can't find any info on this man's hair color? Or his teeth? Were his teeth straight, crooked, did he have fillings, crowns, etc? ETA: Scars, identifying marks?

FWIW - born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and would call it a stocking cap or stocking hat or knit hat. Smaller ones I would call "beanies"

He is on Namus # 8812 .Dental info entered. Has fillings. Hair is straight. Grey or partially grey.
DNA (yay!).No fingerprints -it says hands missing.

It says he was located on a logging/ATV trail....somebody out for hike?

In regards to the Vineyard Vines shirt, there is only one place you can purchase that brand in Maine, and that is the Vineyard Vines outlet store in Freeport, ME. Stacyville is roughly 3 hours north on I-95 heading North. It didnt say if the logging road/atv trail was an active or inactive road. From Bangor heading north to Stacyville, there are numerous truck stops and truck routes, IDK but maybe the man got a lift from someone in a logging truck traveling that route
