As someone that goes to the casino, almost every weekend (and no, I don't take much, I mainly use my five dollars, and take the opportunity to be away from the old man and kids), I know that a good deal of the casinos have signs posted everywhere that they are not responsible for money lost due to a machine malfunction. One would think that would have to work both ways. Customers are not responsible for money the casino lost due to a computer malfunction.

Not to mention, how can they call it a malfunction on what is supposed to be a completely random probability game?

I hope she wins, and they have to pay up and cover all court costs.

So when a person wins big money at this casino the casino says that's not possible, let's investigate? Do they investigate every time someone wins because they know for some reason people aren't supposed to win? And if I play a game 10 times at their casino and don't win, and the odds on that game say a person should win one out of every ten times, should I have the state investigate?

Back in the 70's this policy wasn't in place in many casino's. I was in a casino back in the 70's and a quarter slot machine was broken in that I could control one wheel with the handle. The only way back then the machine could be taken is if there was a fight over the machine. The casino paid these two women to try and start a fight. The ladies suceeded but not before I emptied the hopper

This is a sad story. The machine listed the highest possible jackpot as $10,000 and it's a penny slot so obviously it really was a computer malfunction. If I were the casino I would offer her the $10K jackpot as a settlement.

As a recovering compulsive gambler I would have probably shot myself on the spot if that happened to me. Although with my luck the only way I could have won was with a computer malfunction.

I'm sad for her, but it's pretty obvious it's a misfunction. The machine only pays out 10K, so why on earth would she think she's entitled to 41,797,550.16? A penny machine at that!

The casino should show good faith and toss her the 10K and cover her court costs for being so ruthless and fighting with the poor woman.

Exactly. I've never heard of a penny slot paying out so much. I also think that the $10K you suggest would be equitable.

I had this happen to me in CT. Called a person over, she called another person over, and I was told unless I could prove it, I get nothing. How the heck do you, the player, prove the damn machine malfunctioned?

She won't get paid. If she goes to court, the IRGC will prove they are right. Maybe she hired the lawyers on a contingency basis. I'd sure hate to get stuck with a big lawyers fee for nothing.

Pay her the 10K in good faith. My God, they can afford that just to show they are fair. If the machine malfunctions, people think they are winning and that is a poor business practice to get peoples hopes up. I find this a situation that should not be ignored. Get the machines working properly. I would have had a fit on the spot.:maddening::maddening:

Even a malfunction is a win in a game of chance-- they need to suck it up and pay out the jackpot for that machine. I used to like slots, but haven't played them since they all went computerized, well I should say, after the first time I lost so terribly I haven't played again. :doh:

If I were a lawyer, I would ask them how many times they've paid out $10,000. Ever? If not, are they scamming people by claiming "malfunction" whenever someone wins big? A Pre-Programmed Malfunction so they never have to pay?

I just can't imagine thinking I won and then learning I didn't. I would be so mad.

It's why I don't like those fake lottery tickets. You give them as a gift, the receiver scratches them and thinks they won $10,000 (or whatever the highest prize is). Then they realize the ticket is a fake. I don't find that funny in the least!
