In August of 1990 the mother of Charlene reported that she was missing.
She said that she last spoke to Charlene in September or October 1988, when Charlene mentioned she was in Florida.
All efforts are being made to locate Charlene and the case is actively being worked by authorities.

This seems like one which may be both solvable and a case of voluntary disappearance. The fact that she was a wanderer, meaning she was only reported missing after 2 years is one indication. She also got married at 15 in San Luis Obispo on 19 February 1978, to a Martin W Bruce - so she acted independently from a young age (the marriage record is in Ancestry and confirmed via the dob). I have not found a divorce record, but that is not unusual.

Charlene has an additional AKA other than her married last name of “Bruce”. She also went by the name Regina Lett according to the below article dated October 2007.

She got in some trouble at 19, which may have prompted her move to Missouri.
Her first husband moved to MO as well. I haven’t found a divorce record, but he remarried and passed away in 2002.


I believe this is her second marriage.

A Charlene Bruce is living in Joplin, MO per Ancestry Public Records file


Interestingly, her father’s 1991 obituary lists her living in Missouri. 3 years after she went missing supposedly in Florida…?

Her second husband was arrested in Duval County (Jacksonville encompasses most of the county) in May 1989 for “Unauthorized persons boarding a train”

If she was with him, this lines up with her telling her mother she was in Florida. He provided a FL address at the time of his arrest.
