LA - Dusty Bambarger, 17, Baton Rouge, 9 Nov 2004

    Search on for Woodlawn teen

    By HEATH DRUZIN
    Advocate staff writer
    November 15 2004

Sheriff's detectives searched the Scotlandville area Sunday night for a teen missing from his Woodlawn home since Tuesday, the teen's mother said.

Dusty Bambarger, 17, left home Tuesday night in his parents' beige and champagne Cheverolet Suburban, borrowing $20 from his mother and saying he was going to a friend's house to watch a movie, his mother, Lisa Bambarger, said. He never returned.
Bambarger said her son may have been spotted in Scotlandville Thursday.

Sheriff's Lt. Ron Boucher confirmed Sunday deputies are searching for the teenager. Boucher said there is no evidence of foul play.

Bambarger is worried her son might have gotten into trouble or done something to the Suburban and is afraid to return home.

"I don't care about the vehicle, and I don't care about what he's done," she said, pleading for her son to return.

Bambarger also asked for help from the community.

"I ask people to please look for him as if it were their own kid," she said.

Dusty Bambarger's father, Kenny Bambarger, said his son likes to skateboard and play drums and guitar.

He said his son, a junior at Woodlawn High School, has never run away from home.

"He's a pretty average kid," he said. "He's just kind of quiet and kind of shy."

Dusty Bambarger is 17 years old, 5 feet 8 inches, 125 pounds with black, shaggy hair above the shoulder and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing white shorts, a black T-shirt, a black baseball cap and black tennis shoes.

He was last seen in a beige and champagne 2001 Chevrolet Suburban with a double door on the back, running boards, a bug visor and a blue environmental license plate with a brown pelican on the left and the numbers 1216.

He was last seen by his parents in the Woodlawn Area at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday but may have been spotted in the Scotlandville area as recently as Thursday.

Anyone with information can call the Sheriff's Office at (225) 389-5000.

Wow, I hope he is OK. I worry he might have gotten into an accident where the vehicle went over a cliff or something. That is what has happened with the last 2 teens that have been missing with a car. One recently in Washington was found almost a week later when a friend of the family was prompted to look in a certain place. The girl was alive and saved. So there is always hope!

I pray they can find something out soon. The poor parents.

In that previous article they mentioned that they questioned a man and released him - but in this article from 12/4 they talked about another man named Leonard Moses whose fingerprints were found on Dusty's car. The car had also been wiped down with motor oil in an attempt to hide evidence. So sad. Everyone please say a prayer to give this family strength.

Authorities say body is that of missing BR teen

    December 10, 2004

BATON ROUGE, La. Authorities confirmed today that a body found in tall grass off a street in the north part of this city is that of a 17-year-old boy missing since November.

Dusty Bambarger, a student at Woodlawn High School, left home in his family's sport utility vehicle after telling his parents he was going to watch a movie at a friend's house.

The body was found Wednesday afternoon.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokesman Fred Raiford says the identity was confirmed by Doctor Bob Barsley, a forensic specialist at the L-S-U Medical Center in New Orleans, using dental records.

Raiford says the cause of death remained undetermined.
