Please excuse me if I am missing something (and delete/combine if I am repeating), but I do not see a thread for this latest dose of disturbing "breaking" news:

APNewsBreak: Powell had 'incestuous' images

Before Josh Powell was going to try to win back custody of his children last week, Washington state authorities received materials from Utah police that had been discovered on a computer in Powell's home two years ago.

Authorities say the images depicted "incestuous" sex and were disconcerting enough that they prompted a psychologist to recommend that Powell undergo an intensive psychosexual evaluation.

Looking a little further, I see that this has been mentioned on another thread, the one about Powell family statements.

The article I linked explains that these images were found in 2009 and that they were "realistic computer-generated" images (not actual photos) -- I guess a type of animation -- so apparently there may be some question about whether they are illegal ...?

Backwoods, yes I read the same thing. I'm thinking even cartoonish characters can be *advertiser censored* imho. Especially if the images represent incestuous acts.

Was J an incestuous, pedophile, pre meditated murderer?
Makes me feel sick when I think about what the boys may have gone through.

imho

Wait, what? They found these images TWO YEARS AGO and were just NOW beginning to think it might be wise to evaluate if it has a bearing on his custody of his sons???

From his comments in the custody hearing it sounded to me like the lawyer knew exactly what these images were. Knowing they were computer generated he'd be able to say they aren't illegal but he also knew they were in extremely bad taste and concerning IMO.

Illegal or not-that is information that should have been shared long ago! Especially after Steven's arrest!!:banghead:

Is anyone else wondering what "incestuous" means in this instance? It could mean Josh and the kids, or it could mean Josh and other family members. My mind is going in strange directions here.

I just hope the family doesn't blame the internet, LE, or the media for this latest news. No one made JP do any of these acts, and each one seems worse than the next.

Some of the reports use the term "parent-child" to describe the depicted relationships, ThoughtFox.

I guess, if they are "computer generated" they could be "generic" parent and child depictions (not resembling anyone specific) ... but I don't know.

Gosh, could it be some kind of "training tool" ...:what: So creepy, from the sound of it. Guess maybe we will hear more eventually.

That is exactly what they seem to be. With JP's training the kids to run around naked, that naked play is good, and see the fun pictures showing how daddy and sons can play together naked!?

Grooming is what it's known as.

Sadly, he couldn't live without his sons because they were his entire sexual outlet.

From what I understand child pornographers have been using life like computer generated images to circumvent child *advertiser censored* laws. The images are completely life like but not illegal because they aren't using real people. A loophole that I was under the impression they were working to correct.

Let's not forget that Papa Powell was showing *advertiser censored* movies to his daughter Jennifer when she was only 11 or so. Looks like Josh is following in Daddy's footsteps.

Just sick. Who in God's name (any god - insert your own god here) would allow such a person visitation with their children?

I'm getting more and more upset with the lack of accountability in this case, and I thought nothing could surprise me anymore after all my years on Websleuths. But that nice social worker who was bringing the boys to visit JP surely didn't know anything about the incest *advertiser censored*, did she? And if she didn't know, why not?

:banghead:

I think the boys were starting to open up with the Coxes and they were becoming a threat to JP and perhaps even his dad. :(

I heard this on ABC news. I heard it twice. I had to hear it the second time before I realized he said "incestuous" and not "pornographic". I was still thinking about seeing the interview with the social worker when the newsman said about the computer searches!

Of course, I came here to read the thread.

It could mean the kids, other family children, his siblings, his parents, or any mix of them. No matter which, it doesn't sound good.

I'm trying not to imagine the horror those little boys lived for 5 and 7 years.

Last night, I watched online an episode of Dateline (Dec 2011, I think) and was totally creeped out by the sexual accusations made by Steve against Susan. Totally obvious to me, he was the one making advances.

Now this. I think we suspected the family was "mixed up". I'm just sick thinking Susan's babies could have been involved. Please, NO!!!

Evil has no boundaries.

So this stuff was found two years ago and he just lost custody when his father was arrested??? WTH were they thinking???

Dear lord, they found the images in 2009. They never got the images to the doc that was supposed to decide if the children were safe with JP until a few days after he murdered them??!! I am a little angry right now. I do not understand how this could have happened, especially with it being a high profile case. Did everyone walk around thinking JP was a good dad, drinking his koolaid? Did no one keep pushing the issue, well, forgive me the Cox family did all they could, I mean the professionals whose hands this case was in. Imagine what is going on with all the non-high profile cases.

Still waiting for that YOU ARE DREAMING pinch..

The newsman said "incestuous images". If the images weren't actual pictures, how would they know it was "incestuous"? The images must have looked very much like the family members.

The news keeps replaying Alina's insane statement that JP was distraught over internet harrassment and such, and how he couldn't take it anymore. Please! If he had killed only himself, sure, he could have been depressed, upset over not having his kids, fearing he was close to being arrested for Susan's disappearance, or his involvement in his father's *advertiser censored* case, okay, we could say he couldn't take it. But he murdered his children, brutally and maliciously, even telling them he had a big surprise for them. Evil is the only answer.

There was much more going on than internet harrassment, these images prove it.

The whole thing with this particular case is, aside from the disappearance of Susan, all of it was preventable!

My mind immediately goes to the politically correctness that our whole nation has turned too, instead of being concerned about these boys well being, everything in the system is geared toward Josh's "rights" and ensuring that HIS rights are not violated, to the detriment of his sons lives, such a sad outcome.

Breaks my heart, this is what our society has come to.

Snipped

But a lawyer for Powell's in-laws, who had custody of the boys, wasn't invited to see the computer-generated materials before the custody hearing—even though a Utah judge had specified in a sealed court order that he was one of the few people allowed to see them.

Had he seen the images, attorney Steve Downing said, he might have asked the court to change the terms of Powell's supervised visitation with the boys, such as by asking for the visits to be in a public place. Instead, Downing said he didn't learn until Thursday morning—four days after Powell killed himself and the boys in a house fire—that he was allowed to see them.
