LOS ANGELES (AP) — At least three people were shot and wounded Thursday at a burning home in Hollywood where another victim or the gunman may have perished, authorities said.
At the height of the blaze, TV news helicopters over the scene showed officers, some with shotguns, crouching near the corner of an apartment building as firefighters trained hoses on the flames from a distance.
Other firefighters stayed behind the protection of a fire engine.
The rambling single-story home already was smoking when firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m.
A 34-year-old man and two 38-year-old women had been shot and police took them from the front of the home, authorities said. They were taken to the hospital in serious condition but were expected to survive, police and fire officials said.
Two hours after the blaze, police planned to send a SWAT team inside to search it, Neiman said.

Suspected gunman, 4th victim found dead in house
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A suspected gunman and a fourth victim were found dead inside the charred remains of a house in Hollywood, authorities said.
The two bodies were found after the fire in the house was out and police and firefighters were able to search the structure.
Police say the shooting was "domestically motivated' but did not elaborate.
Speaking through a Spanish translator, area resident Angelica De Paz said she was about to go to a store when she saw a man kick in the front door of the house. About five minutes later, De Paz said, she got a call from a neighbor who said the house was on fire.
"I thought it was a joke," De Paz said.
She described the man she saw as being in his 20s or 30s, wearing a black shirt with blue jeans.
Area resident Darwin Urbina said he saw a man of the same description sitting on a curb outside the house shortly before he heard shots. Urbina said he and the man looked at each other.
"He had this intent look," Urbina said. "He just stared at me for a while."

............Authorities said the incident was the result of domestic violence. The wounded, two women and a man, all in their 30s, were each shot in the upper torso. They were hospitalized in serious condition, but officials said all three are expected to survive. All were conscious and able to talk, police said.
Police did not release the names of the gunman or the victims. Neiman said the gunman was at one time in a relationship with a woman who lived in the home. She is among the three survivors, he said.
The residents of the home were renters who had moved in about six months ago, landlords James and Brigid Sheridan said. There were five or six people in the six-bedroom house — a married couple in their 30s and others who subleased from them, the landlords said.
The Sheridans did not know the residents well but said they were good tenants. "I had no problem with them at all," Brigid Sheridan said.
A neighbor, Lizbeth Marroquin, 23, described the home's residents as pleasant and friendly and said she was baffled by the violence.
