    Charges dropped

    June 2012:

A teacherís aide in New York City is caught between the justice system and the New York City Department of Education since a grand jury on Monday declined to indict him on child sexual abuse charges.

Though the aide, Brett Picou, 30, of Public School 52 in Springfield Gardens, Queens, is free from criminal charges, the Education Department has kept him off the payroll and could still seek to discipline or fire him.

His lawyer Virginia LoPreto said Picou, who testified before the grand jury, was trying to pick up the pieces of his life.

“He’s hoping he can get back his reputation and certainly his livelihood,” she said.
