AZ - Jorge Zamora-Rogel, 2, beaten to death, mom & BF charged, 24 Feb 2012

Please be warned, this case is very similar to Ethan and Dominick.

The boyfriend who's on the run... and the mother who watched her baby boy die.

For the record... I verified that this is in fact the mugshot from shortly after she was arrested for watching her baby boy die.

Jorge Zamora spent his last moments struggling for breath inside a Maryvale home.

His mother, Wendy Pagasa beside him, listening to him gasp for air.

Police say she didn't call 911 for three hours -- until his heart stopped beating.

    --------------------------------

Police say Pagasa's live-in boyfriend, Garcia, beat little Jorge to death.

Right now, Garcia is on the run and police are trying hard to find him
    .

    ----------------------------------

Police arrested Pagasa, saying she failed to protect her son.

"He killed a child with his bare hands," Crump said. "We're going to find him.
And anybody who gets in the way of that is going to go to jail as well."

    -------------------------------------

According to court records, Garcia lifted Jorge Zamora-Rogel up by his throat Friday and slammed his head into a bedroom wall.
When Rogel-Pagasa begged Garcia to stop, records say, he whipped her with an electrical cord, then continued to beat the child's head against the floor.

    ---------------------------------------

The child's father came to her home Saturday morning
, Chavez said. He told her that he had been trying to get custody of Jorge but hadn't been able to find the boy and his mother.

After the attack, Garcia left the home for about one-and-a-half hours and
Rogel-Pagasa watched as her bleeding, unconscious son convulsed on the floor.

She tried unsuccessfully to revive him, but did not call for help,
    according to police.

When Garcia returned, he tried to rouse the child by hitting him more, lifting him up by his ankle, bending his fingers back, and slapping him in the face.

Rogel-Pagas also tried to wake the boy up -- which still didn't work -- and she told police she cleaned the "bloody froth" coming out of his mouth several times.

Rogel-Pagas told police her son's arms were spasming uncontrollably, and his erratic breathing was making a "rattling sound" -- which she recognized from "one of her dogs which died shortly after making this noise."

    ---------------------------------------------

...the "violent assault on her son causing severe swelling to [his] head, obvious bruising, bloody froth coming from his mouth, labored breathing with rattling sounds, unconsciousness, and non-responsiveness to pain stimuli for over three hours..."

    ---------------------------------------------

Rogel-Pagas' bond was set at $36,000 on the felony child-abuse charge, and police are still looking for Garcia, the suspect in the boy's murder.

"We're going to track him down -- it's just a matter of when,"
Phoenix Sergeant Trent Crump tells New Times. "We're not going away."

    -----------------------------------------------------

Police would also like to issue a warning for anyone who might help Garcia avoid the cops.

"Anyone who helps this suspect avoid apprehension in away, they're going to jail with him," Crump says.

What in the world would possess a mother to sit and watch for so long and not call for help? I could understand if JG was still in the house and she was scared of what might happen to HER but ... he left...and she sat there. Words escape me.

Authorities say Juan Garcia beat his girlfriend's son to death Friday night, but by the time the girlfriend called for help, Garcia was long gone.

According to police, Garcia has ties to gang members in the valley and they're hoping someone he knows will turn him in after what they say he did to the boy.

You know... I have a lot of cousins who are felons.
My extended family... a lot of them are in Arizona.
My Aunt actually called me last night to ask me which prison her son was in right now. Seriously.

Anyway, we sent off letters to my cousins today... and I often talk about cases with them.
I'm sure they are aware of this one already, because they watch TV too.
This guy might need to worry about cops if he resists... he might need to worry about his gang... and he might need to worry about inmates.
He just isn't going to have a very pleasant life no matter where he is, now is he?

That is great that there are people who care enough to raise money for a reward. Sad that one is needed. I hope that catch the monster who did this.

Drugs.....detachment.......not giving a crap........the list goes on and on and on..........Please...if anyone knows of any children who are in precarious situations.,talk to someone about it. Tell these "mothers" to either be single or tread carefully. If a guy hits you or your child even ONCE , he WILL do it again.
Where are grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins etc when all this is going down ?

Her bail is only $36,000? Which means she can walk out of there if someone comes up with $3600 right? You can barely buy a decent used car for $3600. I'm no expert, but I would hope that this baby's life was worth more than a damn used car.

Rogel-Pagasa's next court date is April 30

Phoenix woman maintains innocence in 2-year-old son's beating death

The lawyer for a Phoenix mother indicted in connection with the beating death of her 2-year-old son maintains she was a victim too.

Wendy Rogel-Pagasa, 18, was indicted by a grand jury Mar. 5 after her son, Jorge Zamora-Rogel, died on Feb. 24, according to Jerry Cobb, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Rogel-Pagasa pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and child abuse, according to her attorney Tim Linnins
