PALM BAY, Fla. - A jury found a 35-year-old Brevard County man guilty of battery and child abuse after he was caught on video punching and kicking a teenager.
The jury deliberated Friday and reached the verdict around 11 p.m.
Prosecutors say Gary Johnson punched and kicked the 16-year-old in the head when the boy came to fight his teen son in Palm Bay in August 2011. He collapsed in court after the verdict was read.
-------
Prosecutors showed videos of Johnson organizing the fight between his son and the victim and acting as a referee to "keep the fight clean," according to a witness.
Witnesses said that when Johnson's son refused to fight anymore, Johnson shook the Mace's hand and then began beating him up.
In the video, Mace gets in Johnson face and Johnson punches him, knocking him to the ground. While the teen is still on the ground, Johnson is shown kicking him in the face.
Police said Johnson lied to them about his involvement in the fight.
Johnson can be heard in the video saying, "You're lucky what you got was all you got," which prosecutors say is not a fearful message of a man defending himself.
