According to the article below, authorities were called after reports of gunfire in the early hours this morning. The article doesn't say much, but according to a friend of mine on FB (this is where I grew up), they don't know who did it BUT they're saying they don't believe it was random. The local paper only comes out once a week and then it's not available online *publicly* for another week (subscribers can see it, though) - but it should have more info than the Augusta paper. I wonder if it's a domestic issue since the children were not harmed.

Authorities are investigating the death of a Burke County woman whose body was discovered Wednesday morning in her home.

Children were at the residence at the time but had not been harmed.

How awful for those poor kids. Another pregnant woman taken out...I think we can make an educated guess as to who the perp will turn out to be-once LE finds out who she was seeing. :(

Investigators have no doubt about the murderer's motive, “Somebody did not want her to have this child, which led to her being shot.” Sgt. Dedric Smith says this is one of the most complicated cases he's ever been a part of, but there is new hope. Nearly a year after the crime they finally have DNA evidence back from the state lab. Amy's family hopes it will help bring this case to a close.

This weekend marks the three-year anniversary of the death of 27-year-old Amy Ellison Nichols, a young mother who was pregnant with her fourth child. Her daughters found their mother shot to death on the floor their Girard trailer.

The Burke county sheriff's office has announced they are now offering a $5,000 reward for information in the death of Amy Nichols and her unborn child. This information was as if 3-8-17

Reviving a cold case murder of a pregnant mother

It's been five years since a pregnant mother of three was murdered in her own home. The murder of Amy Ellison shook the small town of Girard, and five years later, they're still looking for the killer.

The new Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams is hoping to revive this cold case with cold hard cash. The Sheriff's Office is offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

We asked the Sheriff if they knew who the baby's father was. He said, "We are aware of who's responsible there and we are withholding that information."

But, there has never been enough evidence to make an arrest, and the momentum in the case eventually died down.

"Whoever did it, they get to go home to their family. They get to have fun. If they have children they get to spend time with their children, their mom...and we don't have that, and that's not fair," said Heath.

New details we uncovered paint a disturbing picture. Nothing was taken from the home. There were no signs of forced entry. Investigators believe someone knocked, someone Amy probably knew, and she opened the door.

"I think Amy was specifically targeted for a specific reason, and we just need to find out what that is," said Sheriff Williams.

This wasn't a random crime. It wasn't a burglary gone wrong. Someone plotted to shoot a pregnant mother in the stomach.

"We know that somebody knows what happened, and I believe there's more than one person that knows what happened," said Sheriff Williams.

The killing of a pregnant woman isn't random. She had to know her killer imho.
