WI - Saxon Harbor, Male skeletal at campsite, Nov'04 - Jerome Hoeft

Anyone know of a man missing from WI, MN, or MI who could match this unidentified man who's remains were found? This is not far from where I live. Somebody somewhere must be missing this person.

Quote from Article in the Ironwood Daily Globe:

"Evidence was recovered at a campsite just above a ravine near Saxon Harbor, where the scattered skeletal remains of a man were found Tuesday. The remains were away from the lake, in an open area. It has been determined the man was wearing size 13 shoes, and had a 40-inch waist."

Google search produced only 2 articles.

I see that a man from Wapaun WI named Jerrold Strege has been missing for just over 2 years and was a large man (may have had a 40" waist and size 13 shoes?)

The FBI should be able to do a recreation of his face when he was alive using clay, if authorities ask them to. I have to assume they knew the waist size from pants or a belt, since they also found shoes. So I would hope and think they'd show the clothes everywhere hoping someone recognizes them, eventually. But if he was a transient, they won't ever identify him. However, given his attempts at anonymity, I wonder if he committed a crime at some point and was on the lam?

A person can hide out in the MN/WI/MI woods fairly easily, assuming they have survival skills, which a lot of North Country people have. I've been mountain bking in Northern MN and have encountered squatters. (Didn't stop to say hello.) When I first moved to MN, I heard about a small plane that went down north of Duluth; the plane was found five years later. There are miles of uninhabited lands.

    Article:
Why would an arson fire in 1999 be important to the investigation? What is being suggested?

It isn't related to the case. It is just another article on their web page.

I don't know what the authorities here will do. It is very small town around here. I doubt they will put pictures of his clothes in the paper to see if anyone recognizes them. Maybe the FBI will get involved and do more.

I think this person was hiding out from authorities for some reason.

Yea I saw that....the fact that this man has a wallet but no forms of ID would be consistent with someone leaving their wallet and ID behind and perhaps later buying (or stealing) another wallet somewhere just to hold money in.

After all if Jerry may have left his wallet behind on purpose. I was wondering if Jerry felt he had to dissapear because some prisoner had threatened that his friends on the outside were gonna get Jerry? Perhaps he was scared enough to just take off and hide in the woods?
