Report of courthouse shooting in Washington state (AP)
MONTESANO, Wash. (AP) -- Emergency responders were dispatched to a report of an attack at a courthouse in Washington state.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger said initial reports were a deputy and a judge had been wounded at the Grays County Courthouse in a shooting and stabbing Friday afternoon. Winger says he doesn't know the extent of the injuries.

Authorities were looking for one man who is possibly armed with a pistol. Area buildings were on lockdown.

Montesano is about 90 miles southwest of Seattle.

Isn't that the same county that Lindsey Baum went missing?

Update at 4:48 p.m. ET: The injuries suffered by the unidentified superior court judge and the sheriff's deputy are not life-threatening, KIRO-TV reports.

Four superior court judges handle criminal, civil and family cases in Grays Harbor County.

Update at 4:39 p.m. ET: Deputies are searching several neighborhoods for the suspect, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott told The Seattle Times. There was no mention of the earlier report of a SWAT team surrounding a home.

Scott said it's not clear why the suspect was at the courthouse. "It doesn't appear he was here on any official business," he said.

Still no word on the identities of the judge and deputy or the extent of their injuries.

So awful! You'd think courthouses would have learned a thing or two after Atlanta.

The deputy was stabbed, then shot with her own gun, and there's more:

Both Superior Court Judge Dave Edwards and Deputy Polly Davin were taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in nearby Aberdeen, where they were listed in satisfactory condition, spokesman David Quigg said.

Edwards, a former prosecuting attorney appointed to the bench in 2007, was part of a lawsuit filed by the Superior Court against the county in December that alleged poor courthouse security due to inadequate funding.

The lawsuit said that over the past two years, attorneys were physically assaulted at court, a defendant charged at a judge and a man came to the courthouse armed with a knife.

"Anyone can enter the courthouse carrying weapons," the lawsuit said of the courthouse.

(County Undersheriff Rick) Scott said the courthouse lacks metal detectors.

"We just had a discussion about courthouse security less than a week ago," Scott said. "The need for that is certainly illustrated by what happened here today."

    from your link:

    SUSPECT REMAINS AT LARGE

Authorities searched a wide area for the suspect, identified as Michael Thomas, but had not arrested him as of late afternoon.

Another man also identified as Michael Thomas was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant at mid-afternoon in the community of Tumwater, some 40 miles away, a spokeswoman for the Tumwater Police Department said.

Authorities later said he was not the gunman and only shared the same name as the suspect.

"The man in custody is not the alleged shooter," Scott said.

The gunman was described as being in his early 20s and possibly armed with a handgun and a knife. Scott said it was not clear what business he had at the courthouse.
I hope they find him soon.

Suspect arrested day after judge, sheriff’s deputy injured in Wash. courthouse attack

    Published: March 10

SEATTLE — Police in Washington state on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old man accused of stabbing a judge and shooting a sheriff’s deputy in a courthouse struggle, one day after he fled the small town of Montesano.

Law enforcement officers in neighboring Thurston County took Steven Daniel Kravetz into custody Saturday afternoon at his mother’s home in the state capital of Olympia, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott said.

We have a circuit judge and he used to walk around town in his long flowing robe and greet citizens young and old. Now, just ten years later, we never see him anymore and he had his bench outfitted with bullet-proof glass all around him.

    Bums me out.

Suspect in courthouse attack arrested after his mom called cops

Steven Daniel Kravetz, 34, the man suspected of attacking a judge and a sheriff's deputy Friday in the Grays Harbor Courthouse, was arrested Saturday at his mother's Olympia home. He has been booked for investigation of felony assault.

The reason that they were looking for a "Michael Thomas" is because that is the name he gave the deputy as his name.

He has a criminal history that includes violence. Including DV against his mother. And he was considered a "low risk to reoffend."

Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

"Why he was at the courthouse yesterday remains a mystery," Scott said, adding that his motive is unclear.
