These remains were found in Jasper county Illinois. Newton IL is a bit east of Effingham according to google maps.

I think I can see how the two would be easily confused, IIRC we have cases from Newton IN?

anyhoo, will ask the mods to update the thread title and prefix.

I'd also like to determine how close these were to any camping area's of the river and how old the remains may be. I always have an eye open for Barbara Glueckert as LE believes she may have been buried alongside a river near a camping ground or possible camping ground for transients.

OT. I haven't really followed Lauren's case. But man oh man, that picture Carl posted. She looks almost EXACTLY like the mother of one of my sons friends. Clearly not the same person, but the resemblence is eery.

I wonder why they believe these remains might be Lauren's. According to Google map directions. Newton, IL and Bloomington, IN are appx 106 miles apart.

    Brief MSM update.

The evidence was taken to an Illinois State Crime Lab. The sheriff says it could take up to thirty days to get any results, including an identity.

I wonder if there is a tentative or possible id, and that's why they haven't given much information publicly, or they just don't have much info yet.

Another MSM article with a little more info, but not much.

There was no trail near the remains that were located in one general area, nor was there evidence of a grave, Francis said. What else, if anything, was recovered with the bones is unclear.

I cant really comment on that at this time, Francis said in response to whether anything else was found with the remains.

    <snip>

Police have no leads, Francis said. Several questions remain unanswered for authorities, such as how long the remains had been at the scene, how they got there, or even if the victim was male or female.

We thoroughly searched the scene, and until we get answers from the crime lab, the investigation is basically wide open, Francis said.

Preliminary findings show the bones are believed to be those of an adult male ranging in age from 35 to 50 years with an estimated height of 5 foot 3 inches to 5 foot 8 inches, according to a press release from Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer.

    ...

Several other questions remain unanswered, such as how long the bones had been resting in the wooded area near Newton, or how they wound up northeast of town near the Embarras River, about half a mile from Illinois 130.

That sounds like they have a tentative ID that they're waiting to confirm.
Opinions expressed are strictly my own (who else would they belong to???)

I don't think they would do a skull reconstruction if they had a clear theory of who it probably is and were just waiting to confirm the hunch. JMO.
