Clooney Cuffed Outside Sudanese Embassy

Police arrested actor George Clooney and 17 others -- including Martin Luther King III -- during a protest outside the Embassy of Sudan on Friday morning.

At about 10:45 a.m., Clooney was seen in cuffs with his hands behind his back, being led away from the embassy on Massachusetts Avenue NW. He was put into the back of a police car.

The Secret Service confirmed that 18 protesters were arrested, including Clooney, King, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Rep Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.).

Clooney's father, journalist Nick Clooney, was also arrested, MSNBC reported.

Good for George. I love a man with the courage to stand for his convictions.

Shortly before the arrest, Clooney spoke against the violence in Sudan.

He said he appeared in front of the embassy to ask “the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men women and children, stop raping them, stop starving them,” according to a video posted online by MSNBC.

Clooney and his fellow protesters were being transported to the Metropolitan Police Department’s 2nd District for processing.

"I'll stand together here with my father, so that at one moment in time when you people ask you where were you, where did you stand I want to say I'm standing on the right side of history," the actor told NBC's Andrea Mitchell before police escorted him away. He and the rest of the protesters were placed in the back of a Secret Service van.

Later after the arrest had been made, the actor released a statement via his rep, saying, "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Clooney added, "I'm just trying to raise attention. Let your Congress know, let your president know. It's actually a humiliating thing to be arrested no matter what you do, but I'm glad to be standing here with my father."

Ellen DeGeneres, celebs show support after George Clooney gets arrested

“George Clooney was arrested in DC for protesting against human rights violations in Sudan. He's a great man. I hope I'm his one phone call,” wrote Ellen DeGeneres.

“George Clooney is an awesome dude ... he really stands up for what he believes in. Pretty rare - but he doesn't do any of this for P.R.,” jotted Harvey Levin.

“I share George Clooney's outrage at continued bombings, missile attacks & impending famine in Southern Kordofan. It must stop,” shared Ambassador Rice.

“I love George Clooney for standing up for what he believes in, and for knowing what is really going on in Africa #freeclooney,” wrote Joel Madden.

“I never thought I'd see the day where George Clooney is arrested. Is there no limit to this guy's badassness,” said actor Chad Lindberg.

"It's actually a humiliating thing to be arrested no matter what you do, but I'm glad to be standing here with my father," said George Clooney to Ann Curry.

I've been concerned about the violence in Sudan for over a decade. Good for the protestors! George Clooney got the issue out there front and center!!!

Ok, I'll take one for the team and frisk him .. I know, but someone has to do it.

I watched him last night on tv speaking about this - he's been committed to the casue for years.

Do they need someone to do the pat-down? 'Cause I'm not doing anything this weekend......just sayin'
