The man robbed a Bank of the West branch on Helen Power Drive in Vacaville around 4:50 p.m. Monday, police said. He was wearing a black ski mask - no surprise there - but he also had a vest with the word "sheriff" on the back.

Police believe the robber is the same one who shot and wounded a police officer during an attempted holdup in Chino (San Bernardino County) on Feb. 29 and tried to rob a bank in Sacramento on March 9, King said.

The reason for their suspicion? In both those instances, the robber was also sporting a "sheriff" vest, as well as wearing a black ski mask and toting an assault rifle.
