LARGO — A 37-year-old man repeatedly shocked by a deputy's Taser as he violently struggled Saturday at Honeymoon Island is on a ventilator and not expected to survive, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Sunday.
James Clifton Barnes became distraught about 12:30 p.m. while at the state park, the sheriff said at a news conference in Largo.
Barnes went into the water with his aunt and was physically fighting with her, when an officer with the state Department of Environmental Protection, Joseph Tactuk, tried to stop him.
Barnes then got into a fist fight with the officer, the sheriff said, but eventually was placed in handcuffs.

Why on earth would they shock this guy with a tazer, while he's in handcuffs, 3x's???? I would believe they would be able to restrain him since he was in handcuffs in a better manner.

I know I wasnt there but he's all wet and in handcuffs and then they tazer him?

Even in handcuffs he is still armed. He has his head, teeth, body and feet as weapons. An officer could just try to move out of the guys way, but they have to make sure the guy isn't endangering himself or others if he continues fighting.

IMO anyone who is given a direct order by LE, knowing LE is armed, should be obeying. If they do not, they are endangering themselves. If I were inclined to yell at anyone, it would be the guy they tazed.

Tasers should never be used without an AED present!

Tasers can stop the ♥ in some people. Inappropriate use can lead to death form seizures and head injuries as well. I get why officers need to use them but IMO they need to suspend their use until NEW safety guidelines can be established and offices retrained...:banghead:
