Identified! IL - Chicago, WhtFem UP10783, 18-25, in lake, Mar'12 - Name withheld

The MSM link in the OP now says the body is that of an unidentified female.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, the body was of an unidentified female.

At around 11:30 a.m. on March 26 (2012) , a lakefront resident notified police that he had spotted on object resembling a human body floating in Lake Michigan near the shore between 1350 and 1400 N. Lake Shore Drive. About an hour later, officers from the fire department’s marine unit recovered the body from the choppy waters about 30 feet of the shore.

The deceased, a woman who appeared to be around 20 years old, did not appear to have suffered any trauma, according to the police report for the incident. The victim was reportedly wearing a red turtleneck sweatshirt and boots when recovered. No further information had been released on the woman’s identity or cause of death at the time this issue went to press.

Anda Nadwadney is a little bit young at 16 yrs old, but she otherwise seems to reasonably fit the description.

Her 5'8" height matches perfectly.
Her hair is about shoulder-length, and more or less dark.
The three-month timeline is reasonable.
She is from the Chicago area.
Her listed weight (180 lbs) is much heavier than the Jane Doe's 135 lbs. But I'm not sure how that would be affected by decomp.

the UID had two sweaters and Anda was last seen on Dec 27 so the time of year is consistent with the clothing.

Des Plaines isn't really that close to the lake. It's closer to the O'Hare area. It's about 21 miles from Des Plaines to 1400 N. Lake Shore Drive.

1400 N. LAKE SHORE DRIVE to Des Plaines, IL - Google Maps

The area the body was found, between North Ave. Beach and Oak Street Beach is a very popular area for biking, jogging, walking.... It's an area where bodies are frequently found from accidents rather than a dumping spot.

It's hard for me to imagine why a 16 yr old would venture that far.

FWIW, I think I'd go with a resident of Chicago's downtown or North Side area's or perhaps a vacationer who may have gone missing before I'd venture too far out into the burbs for possible matches on this one.

I grew up in Harwood Heights and Park Ridge (next to Des Plaines), and as a teen, frequently went to the lake. It's only 10 miles to the lakefront. I would assume though, that Anda would have been ruled out by now? Sad story, there. :(
