Red Flags

1. A man who says he is a cousin of the accused mother says other relatives had called Children's Protective Services before, trying to get custody of the girl.

2. A spokesperson with CPS could not confirm whether the agency had been contacted, but Dallas police had been at the house last week and found no danger.

3. DPD also confirmed the mother spent three days in Parkland Hospital last June on a psychiatric hold.

4. Another relative told FOX 4 that the mother has previously spent time in the Terrell State Hospital, a psychiatric facility.

Unbelievable! I assumed the child was dead but I found this.

According to Deputy Chief Sherryl Scott, Danielle Busby called 911 to report that she had injured her 1-year-old girl.

Officers responded at 6:37 a.m. to a home on Marchant Circle in East Dallas, where they arrested the 32-year-old Busby.

The child was rushed to Children's Medical Center and was listed in an unknown condition, but according to Scott, expected to survive.

Police had previously told FOX 4 News that the toddler's carotid artery was not damaged, but her larynx may have been cut

Danielle Busby, now 32, earned a degree in economics from Southern Methodist University, graduating summa *advertiser censored* laude in 2001.
She taught and tutored math at Dallas ISD, is fluent in Spanish, and performed missionary work in Africa and Central America, Annette Choice said. But after those overseas trips Danielle returned home with a tormented mind.
Months later, she was diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic and stayed in mental hospitals three times, Choice said.
In June 2011, a couple of months after Mariah was born, Danielle's family called police about bizarre behavior she exhibited, including walking around outside wearing only a shirt and underwear.

February 2014:

Emergency surgery saved the girl’s life and she is now on the way to making a full recovery. She’s been legally adopted by relatives and will celebrate her third birthday in two weeks...

Prosecutors and defense attorneys worked on an agreement Monday that would declare Busby legally insane and sentence her to a mental institution for treatment and evaluation, but there were concerns that Busby wasn’t aware of what was happening in court.
A psychiatrist is evaluating Busby now to make sure she’s competent and understands the nature of the plea deal.
