Four people were shot, two people were stabbed and two more were beaten in the melee that ensued in the yard of a home in the 200-block of Wickliffe Road.
One of the shooting victims, a man in his 30s, was killed, according to sheriff's deputies.
Another victim, an 11-year-old fifth grader at nearby Ferris Intermediate School was shot in the stomach.
